Please check your web host documentation to see if there are restrictions on server-to-server connections. If this is implemented by your web host, many times server-to-server connections are disabled by default, which would cause you to receive this error on our settings pages.
You may need to add US servers to your whitelist and/or our domain: shareaholic.com. This problem would only affect you when trying to access the plugin settings via your WordPress Dashboard, but will not impact any frontend usability.
Hi Marcelo,
If you could just stick with us a little bit longer… we are trying to iron out the problem. What’s happening is that we are doing some work on our Analytics tool as well as the data-end of the Related Content app while in the process of enhancing this feature. We will have things running smoothly again as quickly as possible.
The engineering ticket ID concerning this issue is SHR-616. As soon as this is fixed, I’ll be in contact to make sure your new and recent content is being recommended to your readers. Thank you so much for your patience and support while we continue working to improve our Related Content feature.
Hi Teyri,
I’d love to help you figure out the cause of the activation error. Could you try removing any instances of our plugin from your plugin manager and then re-adding Shareaholic to see if this fixes the activation issue? If it doesn’t, would it be possible for you to send a screenshot, so that I can get a better idea of what’s happening on your end? Thanks so much!
Glad you found our plugin! Your praise just made our day 😉
Stay tuned as we continue to roll out more options and new features. We have a ton planned and are happy to have you along for the ride!Best wishes to you and your blog!
Hi @ecwid,
We are currently investigating. Just for your reference, the ticket ID is PLG-505. As soon as there is an update on the ticket, we’ll get back to you. Thank you for reporting the problem and for your patience while we look into this. 🙂
Could you please provide me with your phone make & model along with your operating system details? The engineering ticket for this issue is PLG-65. I’m collecting information to aid in the investigation so that we can get this fixed for those affected ASAP. Your help is very appreciated.
Hi skippywp,
It looks like you are running v6.1.5.1 of our plugin. Please, update to our latest release to see if you continue to encounter this problem.
If the issue is still present after updating, I’ll take a closer look at your CSS to see if I can hopefully provide you with a fix for the site. Keep me posted–thanks!
Hi Sheyn,
When you opened the Edit General Website Settings panel, did you see a scrollbar within the panel so that you could view the entire content, or was the lack of a scrollbar the reason you couldn’t access the bottom of the box? May I have your operating system and web browser details, please?
Also, I’ve gone ahead and refreshed your Related Content data. All of your recommendations now point to only active links 🙂
Hi ysar! You can find all of the primary options via the Edit buttons, and you shouldn’t run into an issue with needing to register unless you wish to edit your General Website Settings. You can use the Share Buttons and Related Content apps with full styling control without signing up for a user account, just like before, but now we offer many additional customization options, and our new apps are eve built to be more designer-friendly when it comes to custom modding.
As for routing through our servers, one of our services is site analytics, which is automatically included in the plugin. Related Content data is also parsed on our server to relieve load on yours as well as tied in with Shareaholic Analytics (which is part of the equation in providing the related content recommendations).
Just to give an example: Let’s say you perform a search on Google, the links are routed through their server to collect data, which is used when calculating page ranking. We provide some similar functionality with our analytics, but privacy is important to us. We aren’t using your information or your site’s data for profit. We are a small team, completely funded by angel investors who believe in the Open Share ideal. Our products and services are free and available to everyone; we throw all of our time and love into continuing to expand and enhance all that we offer in order to be the very best we can for both ourselves and you, because we believe in what we do and aren’t a weekend development project.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
Hi damndelicious,
I was unable to load the site linked. If you haven’t yet upgraded to our version 7 release, please check it out to see if that fixes the problem.
Hi @dvaer,
We are currently doing a little work on our Analytics, so you may not be able to take full advantage of our dashboard at this time, but once we get things rolling again, you can check your # of shares beneath the ‘Views from Social’ column on the right. Here’s a sample data report where you should see all of the available headlines and some details to get an idea of how things will look in your report. And don’t worry, the Analytics dashboard usually saves your data for a 30 day rolling period–but this is one of the things we are performing some maintenance on at the moment.
I hope you find this information helpful! 🙂
Awesome! It looks like you solved the problem pretty quickly, too. Great job and thanks for keeping us posted! 🙂
I’m writing up a report to submit to engineering right now. I’d love to have you check one last thing, just to verify that this concerns BuddyPress and not a universal behavior with our apps when viewed from an iPhone.
Could you please view the following two pages to see if the grey box appears at the bottom of the screen in the same manner as it does on your site?
Our share buttons demo page and a recent blog post.
Thanks again for all your help in tracking down more details!
Hey Jim,
No worries. I’m going to respond to you personally via the ticket you submitted through our support center when we have things ready to go in order to verify that everything is looking good on your end (rather than responding in the forum). We can consider this thread closed, but your case pending and awaiting an update. 🙂
Hi @phbyerly,
We’ve rewritten the Related Content app to be fully responsive where the recommendations resize and decrease in number based on the parent container width in different viewports, showing a maximum of five cards at full screen width. This is a mobile-ready design with smooth transitions, but if you’d like to specifically limit the results to a set number, I can provide you with custom CSS so that you can apply the change in your stylesheet, just understand that it will impact the responsiveness of our app.
