Hey snakeair,
For the support ticket #5377 that you reopened on Wednesday, which we have communicating on, I’ll need to investigate the issue directly as I am unable to determine the cause without seeing the problem in action, which I’m unable to do while the feature is disabled.
I’ve requested access to your WordPress admin panel to do some troubleshooting and grab technical information so that we can get to the bottom of the problem as quickly as possible.
I apologize for any frustration you have undergone if you have not received responses previously, but I do hope that you have been receiving my replies. Please, check your inbox, and I’ll be happy to help as soon as I have the details necessary to login to your site and take a closer look at the problem.
Thank you.
Hi chunk_stir,
The thumbnails should now be appearing as expected 🙂
Hi wjwc,
You can use the app’s shortcode to insert it in a widget. Everything you need to know about positioning our apps manually is located in this article.
Hope this helps! 🙂
Anyone having trouble with the Retry prompt and running WordPress under localhost, make sure you have cURL enabled so that your environment is setup to make server-to-server connections.
Here’s a thread with some information on how this can be done in WAMP, and here’s another thread that specifically concerns XAMPP.
Hope this helps someone!
Marcelo,
Without a server-to-server connection between the plugin settings and our server, the problem will only affect your ability to edit your settings on the Available Apps screen as it cannot pull up the settings stored on the cloud, which you will find under the Site Tools page when logged into your Shareaholic user account. The ability for your WordPress access panel to make a server-to-server connection does not affect frontend usability. Your settings will still be applied when the apps load on your site, because your site itself can load external resources. The plugin injects the code into your site that is used to pull in your settings to render the apps.
Hey again, Marcelo 🙂
Sorry that it took so long to get back to you. Things have been SUPER-BUSY! Facebook runs regular crawls of content around the web (think of it like a search engine bot). I believe that the newer the post, the more frequently it will be crawled, while older data may just sit around a little longer before Facebook refreshes what’s stored on their end.
As soon as a page is published, Facebook grabs the data, but I don’t know how this works with drafts as they aren’t yet officially published. And because using the debugger prompts a recrawl of the page, the best way to see what Facebook has stored is to use the Facebook share button in our plugin and compare it to Facebook’s bookmarklet output. It does come down to Facebook crawling your site, and if the Facebook story is incorrect frequently right after publishing, their bot could be running into a problem with the initial scan, which I’m sure Facebook would be able to provide you with more detailed information. 🙂
Hi musicloverdenon,
At this time, we are unable to integrate the Google+ share count into our custom buttons, but we have included share counts for several popular social networks.
Concerning the version differences between the two plugin channels, Shareaholic for WordPress version 7 was released in July of this year on the /shareaholic plugin channel while we continued tweaking the new design and collected feedback from the community to direct further enhancements, some of which have been applied while others are planned for future development.
We will be updating the /sexybookmarks plugin channel with our latest release soon and retiring version 6 as it is no longer in active development.
Hi milinpatel17,
First, make sure you have our latest release installed (v7.0.4.6). Then, you can use the shortcode for one of your Share Buttons apps in the CAPTION section for each image to insert the buttons. If you’d like to customize the link and title that is shared, you can do so by including additional parameters within the shortcode. Details on this can be found in our article about positioning apps manually.
Hope you find this information helpful! 🙂
Matt, I have just the article for you! It provides everything you need to know about manually positioning our apps *anywhere* in your WordPress blog. Good luck! 😉
Hi Mirko,
Are you wanting to show all of the buttons? Since the release of version 7, our apps have been 100% responsive, which means that they are programmed to fill the container in which they load. The share buttons that would overflow to a new line are hidden, except for the More Options button that is always visible if you have this button enabled in your settings. If you’d like to show all of the buttons you have selected in your options, I can provide you with custom CSS to keep them visible at all times, but this does affect the responsiveness of our app as the customization will be applied to all display sizes (including mobile devices) unless you confine it to media queries.
If you haven’t contacted us directly via our support center, could you please provide your website address so that I can make sure your site has been processed into the new engine so that recommendations will populate for you as soon as we’ve completed the transition? Thanks so much!
Hi,
So here’s an update from this end:
We hope to have fully transitioned to the new data management system by the end of the week. The update to our Analytics tool will soon follow. We also have several enhancements planned for the Related Content feature that will take full advantage of the new data engine; these updates will be released once they are coded and tested within the coming months.
There’s a lot to do, several improvements positioned to take affect down the line, and we are on track, getting there slowly but surely. Thank you for sticking with us while we continue upgrading our service and tools. 🙂
Hi Grace,
See if manually positioning the buttons in the corresponding templates fix this problem for you. Here’s a guide to get you started.
At this time, if you would like to hide specific recommendations, you can apply custom styles in your theme’s stylesheet.
.shareaholic-recommendation.recommendation-4,
.shareaholic-recommendation.recommendation-5 { display: none; }You can use the above block and add or remove recommendations to hide by simply adjusting the digit. However, this will affect the responsiveness of our app and is not encouraged.
We do plan to release more options in the Related Content edit panel (v7+).
Hi Linda,
Please, upgrade to version 7 where you are given more styling options: http://wordpress.org/plugins/shareaholic/
We are working to bring even more options into the new interface for having finer control over Related Content. We recently finished up work on our new Share Buttons and our focus is currently on the Related Content app. At the moment, we are doing work on the backend, switching all publishers over to a new data management system to improve the recommendations, and we have several tasks ahead of us to further enhance the feature. We ask for your patience and appreciate your support while we continue the upgrade process. We are a small team working on a lot of code with big things planned, updating all of our products and services this year, plus rolling out new features.
