1) I see; you were asking about the sizes of the Related Content app’s recommendations. We have applied some smart sizing parameters in our scripts to handle the dimensions of each list item (recommendation) that both resizes and works responsively to hide additional cards on smaller screens, and we are also working on a mobile version to make the app even more friendly for those who browse the internet on their mobile device.
In the meantime, if you’d like, you can set media queries to hide specific apps from displaying in the mobile version of your site. You can add this into your blog’s stylesheet in a media query and target individual apps by the data app id attribute, for example:
[data-app-id=”xxx”] {display:none;}
where xxx is the app ID number that you can find at the bottom of the Edit screen for the app you configure on the Available Apps screen.
Alternatively, you can use the following in a media query (which specifies screen resolution limits) to disable all Related Content apps:
[data-app=”recommendations”] {display:none;}
3) Could you check if clearing your browser cache fixes the problem? Are you also able to check if this is the case when viewed through other browsers on your phone? And could you please compare your results to this page to see if the share buttons are visible while you are testing in different browsers?
4) Are you only having trouble with the images appearing alongside the post titles in the recommendations? or is the app failing to display altogether? Would you mind directing me to a post where our Related Content app is set to appear so that I can take a look and ensure that I give you the correct information?
Thanks!
It wasn’t exactly a bug, but because of how the settings were tied together, the Additional Buttons set was an extension of SexyBookmarks and dependent upon some of the options. It wasn’t the most efficient coding, but we’ve worked to make everything very standalone in the new version so that it is easier to customize what appears where and also target apps specifically if you want to disable certain things on individual posts but not all features.
The plugin has been rewritten to be very developer & designer-friendly. 🙂 It ends up you actually have many more customization options available to you than before and much better control over how our plugin integrates with your blog.
Could you please direct me to your site so that I can take a look?
(a link to a particular page where I can test for issues with the Facebook share count would be very helpful) Thank you!Hi eldenroot,
Because Twitter and Facebook are the two most frequently used social media networks and multisharing was a common feature request (particularly for these two services), we have left this available via the Twitter button, which benefits both your readers and you as a publisher, if you choose to use it.
This multisharing interface accessed through the Twitter button was integrated before the v7 release, but we didn’t receive negative feedback until after the same share panel was introduced to the Facebook share button. We have since reverted Facebook sharing to be routed through the standard Facebook interface, but the multishare panel that you can access through the Twitter button has been integrated into all of our products, which we are currently working to streamline.
We still have many enhancements planned while we continue to work on our products, including our WordPress plugin, and we do listen to and appreciate any and all feedback received from our publisher community.
The Google+ button in our redesigned plugin (v7+) uses the same theme and other styles selected by you, the publisher, in order to appear seamlessly alongside all other featured services. Google+ is one of the sharing options that can be added when you are customizing your Share Buttons apps.
Thank you for the screenshots. Just so we can identify whether there is a conflict or if it is just a problem we need to address in our code universally, could you please deactivate all other plugins, switch your theme to an unmodified Twenty Ten again, and clear your cache to test if the issue is still present? If it’s not, switch back to your theme, but do not reactivate any other plugins before checking for this issue again. Keep me posted with your results, and thanks so much for your help!
Hi @gregjch,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and frustration. In v6 and before, saving the settings after an update ensured that you were running the latest scripts by grabbing them from our server and storing them locally, but we’ve greatly refined the process in our new design, completely rewriting our plugin, rather than just trying to fix and expand code that was initially written many years ago.
With the redesign, we use Amazon Cloudfront, an extremely popular and reliable CDN, for caching to take most of the load off of the plugin itself as well as your database. This way, all you need to do after an update is clear your local cache (and your site cache if you use caching plugins) to update on your end. If you do not use caching plugins and forget to clear your browser cache (Shift+refresh), in two days, you’ll automatically grab our latest scripts without needing to do a thing.
I do hope you reconsider your decision as we’d love to welcome you back into our community and appreciate any and all feedback about our v7 release.
If manually placing the buttons, make sure you are using the shortcodes available in the new plugin and not the manual mode code from v6. Here’s an article about manual placement in our newly redesigned plugin: http://support.shareaholic.com/entries/24123323-Positioning-Apps-Manually
Hey Charlie,
We do not currently have a floating share bar option in our plugin. If you’ve created one by manually placing the shortcode for one of your configured Shareaholic apps, check that your CSS styles aren’t causing a problem with your customization.
Integrating the Google Plus share count into our new share buttons is still in the works. If you’d ever like to check the current functionality of our share buttons, you can interact with our sample production set here: https://shareaholic.com/publishers/sharing/
Great to hear, @eldenroot 🙂
@mren, Thank you for checking for issues in your other installed browsers. I’ll make a note of the compatibility issue with Konqueror and Aurora to see if this can be addressed in the future. I appreciate that you took the time to inform us! 🙂
We are making a note of the compatibility issue. Probably most, if not all, of your readers will likely be running a more current version of the popular browsers. Our plugin has been tested on these browsers, and sharing (as well as other front-end functionality) should not be impaired for your readers because of this, just as you should be able to fully interact with our plugin in your local Chrome install.
Please, see the response given on your other thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/you-may-also-like-this-still-showing-deleted-posts?replies=2#post-4522830
We are currently working on refining the Related Content back-end. It is tied into Analytics, which we will be revamping soon. At this time, broken links are identified and removed from the data pool after cycling through a rolling 30-day period.
I just reset the data on our end. It’s cached on our side. I’ve verified that these posts no longer appear in the data after the reset. Please, clear all caches in any caching plugins along with your browser cache to see the update, and you’re all set! 🙂
Awesome! Looks great! 🙂
For immediate hiding of deleted posts, you can setup an exclusion list of URLs to remove from your recommendations. This option is available in the Edit General Website Settings panel that can be accessed on the Available Apps options page.
