In reply to: Problems with wp-stats update to 1.5The sidebar says 2.6.5. The plugin says it requires WordPress 2.7. I have just updated the readme to prevent automatic upgrades for lesser versions. I recommend upgrading WordPress.

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Nebee – Question on meaning of View & Post nameThe Stats plugin was updated soon after your post. It should provide better reports in version 1.5.
No, that information is not provided by that service.

In reply to: 2.6 deleted all my WordPress Stats!!COMBINE is not available. That would mean summarizing two blogs into one and we don’t offer that.
REPLACE is what you want, cannolo. It doesn’t delete anything. It just makes your current blog replace the old one as the owner of the records.

In reply to: WordPress.com stats > clicks – stopped showing internalIt was never supposed to show clicks to your own site. It filters out local clicks by checking the domain. If it matches, that click is discarded.

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Lost “visits” after plugin updateThere is nothing wrong with your plugin. Read the news about why we had to update the plugin.
Since we moved your stats into your time zone, your “midnight” is now in the right place. If your numbers went down today, it’s because you live in the western hemisphere. Those hits didn’t disappear. They shifted back into “yesterday” where they actually occurred.

In reply to: Blog Stats’ Top Posts not showing properlyWe’re performing major upgrades to the stats systems. Any missing or
inaccurate data you see today is temporary. All of the data is intact;
the code that queries and displays the stats is what we’re working on.
I am sorry that this has inconvenienced you. It should be resolved in
the next day or two.As a consolation, I can tell you that we’re implementing out one of the most often requested features: time zone support.

In reply to: wordpress.com stats plugin: visits = visitors?The WordPress.com Stats plugin aims to be as useful as possible while remaining as simple as possible (and free) so we decided not to count visits or visitors. MarkDK, it says “views” so it means “views” and not something else. I see no reason for confusing it with “visits”. If you can show me where the plugin gave you the idea that “views” might mean “visits” I’ll fix it.
If you look closely, there is no such real thing as a view or a visit or a visitor in the data we record. These are all made-up terms we use to describe technical events as though they were the real human events which they are designed represent. To be technically accurate, the plugin would say “script executions” instead of “views”, but that would not satisfy most users.
Basically, a view is counted when a browser displays a page and executes a script embedded in the page. There are failures, exceptions, and duplicates. There are many subtle technical factors that result in a thing being counted or not and the factors change with the internet ecosystem. I will not attempt to explain them further. If you are interested, you should learn the ins and outs of various browsers and read the stats javascript code.

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Transport error – could not open socketThe hostname is stats.wordpress.com and the IPs are subject to change. A DNS lookup will find them. But I’d move to a host that does not restrict your connections.
It’s all back now.
