  • In the meantime, one trick you can use is to save your post with a date in the future (under Advanced Editing). Then it will show up in the edit screen along with your other posts, so that you can get a rough idea of how the formatting looks. Then when you’re satisfied that the post is done, just uncheck the “Edit Timestamp” box and post.

    To clarify, WordPress does not yet support multiple blogs from a single installation. Some people fake it by using categories to simulate separate blogs (which means that you wouldn’t have categories inside any of your pseudo-blogs). But this isn’t ideal, because any user with post permissions can post to any category. The only other solution is multiple WP installs and multiple database tables (either in a different database, or in a single table, but using different prefixes in the config files).
    But, true multi-blog functionality, with per-blog configuration options is a planned feature for a future release.

    On my site (geek ramblings), I did this by moving all of the “sidebar” content into a separate php file, and including it into my templates. And in my ‘menu.php’ file, I just do a require_once('/home/dougal.public_html/wp-config.php'); to prime the pump on pages other than the main one.
    Actually, I use includes for some other common things, too. Like a file for my stylesheet link tags, one for any javascripts, one for any special meta tags, etc. Then, as you said, just remove the blog loop to create a basic page template.

    Think he’ll accept that?
    Personally, I tend to use text editors for most of my HTML work. HTML-Kit is pretty nice.

    I’ve just committed some fixes to CVS which should solve this problem.

    I’ve just committed some changes to CVS which should fix this problem.

    The only thing I don’t like about it is I was unable to get a larger block size around the days, so that those that are links are full-cell-sized like the table version. I think the solution is either to add a span to force the size (a’s don’t seem to take width/height css)

    Did you try setting the CSS for your a tags to display: block?

    There is no version 0.73 or 0.80 πŸ™‚
    After the release of 0.72-gold, the CVS repository was re-tagged as 0.73. But as we started looking at the large scope of the changes going in, it was decided that it warranted a more major version bump, so it was re-tagged again as 0.80. Recently, even more big changes went in, and Matt decided that we might as well call the next release 1.0.
    So, there’s nothing to be worried about.

    Can you give us a more detailed description of what you are trying to accomplish?

    How is this different from the bookmarklet already included with WordPress?

    Right, there are many issues (security and technical) in trying to get php code to run inside a post entry.
    That said, one way you could do it is by including an <iframe> in your post.

    <iframe src="someotherfile.php" width="95%">
    [text here for browsers that don't support iframe]
    </iframe>

    Then you put your php code into ‘someotherfile.php’.

    The time_difference option should just contain the number of hours difference between your server time and your desired display time. In my case, my server is in the Pacific time zone, but I’m in Central. So I enter ‘2’ in that field to indicate that it should add two hours.
    Also note that changing the value will not affect the timestamp on posts already in your database. It will only affect posts that you make after changing the setting.

    Ditto what allusion said. I haven’t gotten around to writing the metaWeblog.newMediaObject API method yet, because I just haven’t had the motivation πŸ˜‰

    Most restrictive working permissions? I’ll assume that you still want to be able to make changes to the files yourself….
    Most files will need to at least have: rw—-r– (octal 0604). This lets you read and write the files, allows the web server to read them, and blocks all access for other users in the same group as you. Usually you use 0644, which allows group read, but you asked for most restrictive πŸ™‚
    Next: if you want to use the weblogs.com.cache file, you’ll want it to at least be rw—-rw-, or 0606, which allows the web server process to write changes to it.
    Lastly: if you want to be able to upload images via the web interface, your images directory will need to at least be rwx—-wx, or 0703, which gives the owner full permissions and gives the web server write and “access” permission (on directories, the ‘x’ bit means that you can access the files under the directory, but you can’t read the directory’s table of contents). Actually, I’m not positive that the web server might not need read permissions for the directory. So if those permissions seem to cause problems, use 0707 instead.
    Okay, one other thing: If you want to be able to modify your template files (index.php, wp-layout.css, etc) via the web interface, then you’ll need add write permissions for ‘other’ on those, as well (rw—-rw-, or 0606).
    BTW, the ‘go+r’ format means “group and other, add read permissions”. This shorthand format is very useful when you just need to alter existing permissions on a group of files. There are single-letter flags for ‘user’, ‘group’, and ‘other’. So, you can recursively restrict permissions via ‘chown -R mydir go-wx’ (which removes write and execute permissions for anyone but the owning user).

    In your template, on your buttons, add class="button", so that you get something like:

    <input type="submit" name="submit" value="search" class="button" />

    Then in your CSS add a rule like this:

    #menu input.button { border: 1px outset black; }

    You can make the border 2px or 3px instead of 1px, if you need to.
