The duplicate recommendations, when you click on each, could you please check if the URLs are exactly the same? If they are different, I’ll just need the title of the duplicate entry (as displayed on the results) so that I can investigate the URLs more closely.

I’ve cleared our cache of the generated Related Content results to perform a new crawl once the Related Content app is activated. After the recommendations reappear, please check through your site for any similar occurrences, and I’ll be happy to help! πŸ™‚

    @rongo @peteratomic

When providing related content, there are three ways of implementing this feature:

    (1) The user can manually select the recommended content for each page, which can turn out to be a very tedious process as this would need to be done every time new content is posted.

    (2) Use a SQL search, such as YARPP, but this puts significant strain on the database, and can potentially slow down the site, which is a reason why some of the larger hosted solutions don’t allow this plugin.

    (3) Use an external service such as Shareaholic: we need to process you content, usually via a crawl of your content pages (and only when you have the Related Content app enabled); then, once we know more about the content, we can provide Related Content recommendations.  To make the recommendations better, we need to know whether people are clicking on the links (hence the redirect through traffic.shareaholic.com), and we also provide this detail back to you in the form of analytics.  Any related content provider, such as nRelate, is going to be doing something similar to this.

    Hi RinelleGrey!

The Related Content app ties into Shareaholic Analytics. The longer the app remains active on your site, the better our system will become with providing more accurate related content to your readers.

As for the search topics, if these recommended pages follow a specific URL pattern, they can be filtered from the results by setting a Pages to Exclude from Recommendations list under your General Website Settings screen.

Use an asterisk as a wildcard. A pattern example: http://www.mydomain.com/s=*

Right now, we are working on fixing a little hiccup in the exclusion function, but this should be corrected either today or sometime tomorrow. Any excluded URLs will then be automatically filtered from the results. If you have any caching plugins, however, these caches will likely need to be emptied to make sure the changes are reflected on your site. πŸ™‚

    Hi b…b,

The redesign should actually provide quicker loadtime with improved caching. Could you check out our latest version (v7.0.3.0) to see if you are still encountering this issue? We’ve rolled out a number of updates that should hopefully improve the performance even further.

As for the bookmark style, we’ve included many more flavors to provide additional options for customization and will be rolling out even more in the future. We’ve grown from three styles to, at present, ten… and even added a second layout option (vertical).

The pocket-style SexyBookmarks are still present, but with a cleaner rendering that improves loadtime, and all styles (themes) now offer service customization, where two of our styles (for ClassicBookmarks) previously only provided the top sharing networks without an option to edit the displayed services. Oh, and we now also support retina displays! πŸ™‚

We’ve included real shortcodes for more flexibility in manual insertion, and as each button placement is a separate app, you can further customize the look for sharing on your site by choosing to incorporate any assortment of themes. We’ve basically kept all the options available in previous versions and added a ton more, but introduced a much sleeker interface to house the options and eliminate the bulkiness and intimidating settings panel, making v7 more user-friendly, customizable, and compatible with popular WP themes and plugins.

Because the plugin was redesigned from the ground up, incorporating completely new features to replace the dated ones, settings were unable to be carried over, but once they have been configured and saved in the new interface, they are safely stored to the specific app ID numbers for all future upgrades.

This wasn’t just a repackaging, but a complete reworking of the plugin that was conceptualized from the feedback provided by publishers who use our plugin. We began work on redeveloping our products and services this year based on years of collecting suggestions from our user-base.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but we are pouring our love and attention into making Shareaholic the best it can be, and feedback from the community does shape and guide the direction that we take with further revisions. πŸ™‚

    Hey @callmeandy,

Could you direct me to the forum section of your site so that I can take a closer look at the issue and get a feel for the structure of your blog? Is the forum being generated by a plugin or is the forum a custom inclusion into your theme? I’d love to help! πŸ™‚

Hi! The Twitter button has been connecting through OAuth for the past couple years. If you’ve ever used our share buttons to Tweet, you were initially asked to authorize our app to post to your account. At that time, our application synced with your Twitter account, and a very minimal entry was made in our database, which allows you access to a Shareaholic account that was generated at that time to store your authorization token. You can sign in to the Shareaholic account synced with your Twitter account by first logging into the Twitter account you’ve tweeted to from our buttons. Then, head to our login page and use the Login with Twitter button to access the corresponding account.

After you’ve logged in, clear your browser cache, reload one of the pages on your site, and try tweeting again. Let me know if you run into a problem.

If you’ve been sharing with Twitter through our apps, you should already have an account. You can log into the corresponding Shareaholic account while signed into your Twitter account. After signing in, head to the Connected Services screen and manage your connections there. πŸ™‚

The update actually incorporates completely new apps to replace the old ones. As everything is brand new, you can consider this a totally fresh install, which means that you’ll need to configure your preferences, BUT they will be saved to your Publisher Dashboard in your Shareaholic account settings, which means after setting up the plugin, you can update your preferences without entering your WP Admin Panel by just logging into our site, and because your settings are saved on the cloud, they will never be lost! πŸ™‚

Hi! Please, see this article and let me know if it helps! πŸ™‚

Hi rodgevbg! Just a really quick update, we do have another release coming out tomorrow to fix a few technical issues (error messages) that have been reported by a handful of publishers, but just for your piece of mind, here’s a snapshot of our Edit panel.

If you are having problems accessing it after clearing you cache, I’d really need to troubleshoot one-on-one to figure out what’s causing the issue in your situation, but I have read your response and understand that you are no longer continuing with us.

As we do listen to all user feedback, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. They will be discussed and considered.

Now, to you both @rodgevbg and @mippie32, if you are having trouble with configuring your settings in the cool little Edit screen, try clearing your cache as you may be running into an ‘assets’ issue. Basically, you need to clear your previously cached resources and refresh the settings panel. This *should* fix the problem.

If it doesn’t, I’d love to get some additional information from you, and a screenshot speaks a million words. That would be incredibly helpful.

Also, we did roll out a few support articles today to ease the transition from v6 to v7. They are a little slim right now, but we are working on fleshing out this documentation to make sure all questions are answered. If you have any that I can answer immediately, please feel free to ask. Would love to help in any way I can! πŸ™‚

And here’s a blog post that will show you some of the interface changes if you aren’t quite there yet.

Hi @mippie32! Your website’s Analytics should have been left unscathed. If they fell off the map, I’ll need your website address to take a closer look and speak with our engineering team.

As for the settings, the update rolled out an entirely new interface with apps that were built from scratch to replace the previous ones. We now save settings to the cloud to make it less likely that you’ll lose your configuration preferences after updating in the future (or through the troubleshooting process) and to provide us with smoother control over fixing reported bugs all in the background without requiring a whole new version release. We can also release enhancements, like new button styles, seamlessly and push these changes live immediately, rather than having to stop and dabble directly in the WP plugin backend.

Your settings are tied directly into your Shareaholic account and will be interlaced with your website’s Analytics, and configuration changes can even be made on our site in your Publisher Apps Dashboard without even needing to enter your WordPress Admin Panel. The Publisher Apps Dashboard provides you with a single spot to manage all of your Shareaholic apps (those setup through the plugin interface as well as any other sites you administer on the WWW where our apps are installed) all in one place. We wanted to streamline things, especially making it easier for those who run multiple websites. We also wanted to offer the same setup options for those using WordPress or other CMS platforms to eliminate unnecessary bulk in the plugin backend.

The new apps have improved speed AND offer greater compatibility with the most popular themes and plugins, along with a ton of new options, including finer control of manual placement and the ability to configure each share-bar placement independently as they are appointed their own individual app IDs for saving your custom settings. You get more bang for your buck! Who am I kidding? It’s completely FREE! Always a bonus, right?

Hi! This sounds like it may be an account issue and not a problem with the buttons themselves. Let’s see if we can isolate the cause.

First, head over to our website and login to your account. Now, visit your account settings panel, and before we continue, verify that you do have an email address saved to your account (so that you won’t lose access while performing the following steps).

Once you have confirmed that an email address is associated with your account, open the Connected Services screen. Check that the account you were trying to connect is listed on this screen. If it isn’t, try to add it via the connection buttons on this page. If it is, clear your browser cache, open a new tab, and try connecting to Twitter/Facebook through our share buttons again.

If you are still having troubles, you may be hitting a blocker after we switched to Twitter’s new API recently. Some users have had issues with the authorization tokens after the switch, but this issue should be easily resolved by just disconnecting your social media accounts on the Connected Services screen and re-adding them.

Just for good measure, clear your browser cache again, reload the page on your site from which you were trying to share, and give it another try.

Let me know how this goes and if you run into any snags. Thanks!

Hi @nmotika! I’ve alerted our engineering team who will look into getting this fixed ASAP. Thanks so much for reporting the notices!

    @ramshackles

Thank you for providing the log. I’ve directed it to one of our engineers, and he took a look and will be investigating further tomorrow. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we try to isolate this issue.

A few things to try for both you and @didier77 as well (this may sound silly and not apply to your situation, but please see if it helps in any way):

    • Check that you have JavaScript and Cookies enabled in your browser settings.
    • Disable any browser extensions that could be interfering with this functionality (such as Ghostery).
    • And clear your browser’s cache before refreshing the plugin settings panel.
