Hi @tillkrenz,
Thanks for your information.
We’ve tested with large-size HTML files as well. It’s working correctly there.
Could you please send us the following information to our support email – hello(at)preventdirectaccess.com so that our team can support you faster & easier?
- A sample protected HTML file
- A sample logged-in account that has permission to view your protected file
Thanks a lot, @tillkrenz.
Hi @tillkrenz,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
We’ve done some quick tests just now but haven’t been able to reproduce the issue yet.
Our protected HTML files still display on browsers.
It shows
Content-Disposition: inlineunder the response header (see our attached screenshot). So could you please send us a screencast showing the issue on your end?
Which PDA version are you using, by the way?

I meant upgrading to our PDA Gold version. 🙂
By the way, PPWP is another product of our team. It provides a comprehensive solution to password-protect your WordPress content.

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] Does not work in my websiteJust an update, the issue was resolved with the customer via email.
As a reference to other users, if you’re using SiteGround hosting, please turn off NGINX Direct Delivery caching option for our file protection to work properly.
Alternatively, upgrade to PPWP Pro version so that you can use our Raw URLs and keep that caching option enabled.
Hope it helps.

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] Does not work in my websiteHi Liliana,
Thanks for reaching out to us last night.
Don’t worry. We’ve always got your back.
At first glance, it could be something to do with caching issues or your server configurations.
To assist you better, could you please provide us with the following information?
- Both protected and private URLs of a sample protected file.
- A screenshot of your .htaccess or Nginx config file.
- Your hosting provider.
You might want to send these details to our support email – hello(at)preventdirectaccess.com so that our team can support you faster.
As for your other questions, please find our answers below:
- Our plugins, including PDA Lite (Free), work well with PHP latest version.
- You can protect unlimited files with our PDA Lite (Free) version. In other words, we do not have any limits on the number of files you can protect.
Let us know if it makes sense to you, @aflorarte.
Just an update, the user reached out to us via email.

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] .htaccessHi @timbobo,
Thanks for reaching out to us last night.
To answer your questions,
- Yes, our PDA Gold does make use of .htaccess rules for Apache servers but we don’t depend on them 100%
- In fact, we do support “Raw URLs” which works independently of the .htaccess rules
- Our PDA Gold also integrates with the most popular servers/hostings by implementing direct rewrite rules:
- Take WPEngine for example, we have a tutorial to implement our redirect rules as per their recommendations.
In short, the fact that WP Engine disables .htaccess doesn’t affect how our plugin works.
Even at the moment, assets/files on WP Engine don’t go through .htaccess rules anymore.
Let us know if it makes sense to you or if you have any other questions.

Just an update, the issue was resolved with the user via email.
As a reference to other users, if you embed your files into content before protecting them, you’ll need to replace unprotected with protected files URLs accordingly.
We do provide a function to automatically replace URLs here:

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] logged in users blockedHi @it-hertz,
Thanks for your detailed reply.
We installed the Restrict Media Library Access on our testing site but haven’t been able to reproduce the issue yet.
Anyway, its main function, i.e. restricting media file access to file authors only, is available in our PDA Lite plugin.
So you do not need to use that plugin, which seems to be abandoned by its authors.
As for the issue when protected files are accessible, it could be something to do with caching issues or your server configurations.
Could you please move our rewrite rules to below this line
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]and see if it works?Otherwise, please provide us with the following information so that we can advise you better:
- Both protected and private URLs of a sample protected file
- Caching plugins, server cache, or CDN you’re using
- Your hosting provider

Hi @benpace,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
Just to be sure we’re on the same page:

- All visitors who access your site can view MP4 files
- Your MP4 files can’t be accessed directly via its URLs
If so, it looks possible with our plugins.
There are a few solutions for you now. To advise you on the most suitable one, may we know:
