In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] Upgrade required…Hi @mobilewebexpert,
First of all, our team really appreciate your time and feedback on our video and pricing. These topics are open to debate. So while we don’t really agree with all of your feedback, we respect and appreciate your suggestions.
Regarding the automatic newsletter subscription, yes our team has checked and confirmed that it’s a UI bug on our Free version.
Despite the notification, we’ve never automatically subscribed your email (or any of our users) to any of our mailing lists without permission.
We’re really sorry for any misunderstanding and inconvenience caused by this wrong notification.
All our team members have been notified of your feedback. We will take them very seriously to fix the bug and improve our plugin further.
[redacted retribution comments and arguments about security]
Anyway, let us make it clear that our plugins are imperfect. They could have bugs and limitations just like a normal plugin. We know that inside out. And we do have plans in place to keep improving it constantly.
Though it’s tough and hurt to read your review and comment, we’d like to thank you for your time and feedback, once again.
If you could give us an opportunity to serve and help, we’ll probably win you over.
NR

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] Upgrade required…Hi @mobilewebexpert,
Thank you for the feedback.
We have clearly mentioned above the video that it provides “An Inside Look at Prevent Direct Access Gold” and not our Free version. Almost all other plugins are doing the same thing.
What our Free version offers are mentioned below the video on the description.
As for the newsletter, our plugin does not automatically add you to any mailing list. Can you please show us where you get that message so that we can investigate it further?
We look forward to your reply, @mobilewebexpert
Hello @fvelmntnja12 ,
Thanks for reaching out.
Just to confirm, you’re using our Free version, aren’t you?
Once a file is protected using our Free version, its File Access Permission is set to “no one” by default. You can change this with our Prevent Direct Access (PDA) Gold
To achieve what you want:
1. Prevent direct URL access to your images with our PDA Gold
2. Allow those images to be accessible on your webpages with our Private Magic LinksHope it answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

In reply to: [PPWP - Password Protect Pages] Works as expectedThanks, @swagnus for your compliment. It means a lot to our team!
By the way, the best working “Password protected” plugin deserves a 5-star rating, doesn’t it? 😛

Hi @stacey6
Thank you for reaching out.
Are you referring to the logo on each protected page or the password protection of the entire site?
Please let us know.
You’re always welcome, @aldebaran57.
1) Yes, you’re right. once you protect a file, its file URL become a protected link (http://www.my-domain.com/wp-content/uploads/_pda/year/month/my-protected-file.abc) on both Free and Gold version. You can insert those protected files into content using “Add Media” as usual.
2) Yes, correct. The File Access Permission is non-configurably fixed to “No-One” on free version. You can change it to admins, logged-in users or any custom roles on our Gold version.
3) Yes, you’re right again. Private Download Links are meant for one-off file sharing. We use those expiring download links for our Private Magic Links (https://preventdirectaccess.com/extensions/private-magic-links/) or integrations with Email Marketing software such as ActiveCampaign and Mailchimp
Hope it helps and makes sense to you, @aldebaran57

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] .htaccess file not writableHi @tongoa,
Thank you for reaching out.
Yes, our Prevent Direct Access Gold does support NGINX server. Our free version, unfortunately, doesn’t though.
Please refer to this guide on how to set it up on NGINX servers: https://preventdirectaccess.com/docs/nginx-support/
You can ask Kinsta support to implement those redirect rules if it’s too technical for you.
Hope it helps and makes sense to you @tongoa.

In reply to: [PPWP - Password Protect Pages] plugin not workingHi @rishikhatiwada,
Thanks for reaching out.
Which version of our plugin are you using right now?
Can you please send us a sample password protected page with this issue?
We look forward to your reply.

Hey @aldebaran57,
Thank you for reaching out.
To answer your questions,
A) By default, no one is able to access your protected files on our Free version. You will be able to change it to admins, logged-in users and custom user roles on our Gold version.
B) Once you protect a file, its file URL is actually changed and updated automatically with “_pda” on its URL. So it’s not the same old link.
C) The actual reason why you cannot access the embedded protected files is that their File Access Permission (FAP) – who can access those protected files, is set to “No one” as mentioned on point A).
You can still insert your protected files into your content using “Add Media” as usual. Just that you will need to set a different FAP than “No one”. That feature is available on our Gold version.
Please refer to this article on the differences between the original links, protected links, and private download links:
https://preventdirectaccess.com/docs/original-vs-private-download-links/
Hope it helps and makes sense to you, @aldebaran57
Please feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

First of all, we apologize if our plugin didn’t work as per your expectation.

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] bbPressAs of now, I’m afraid you have to go in and protect those files manually. You can protect multiple files at once though.
In case there will be a lot of new upcoming file uploads to that private page or you have a lot of pages like that, we can surely build an extension that integrates PDA Gold with bbPress and automates the entire process for you.
Please just let us know @bgfrancey

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] bbPressHey @bgfrancey,
Thank you for reaching out.
Yes, absolutely. You can selectively protect those file uploads on that page (or any other pages) from being accessed by non-logged-in users.
This tutorial will give you an idea on how to do it with our Prevent Direct Access Gold. https://preventdirectaccess.com/docs/getting-started-with-prevent-direct-access-gold/
Hope it helps.

In reply to: [Prevent Direct Access - Protect WordPress Files] Private and Custom LinksWe have resolved the issue with Susan through emails.
For those who would have similar questions, there is a massive difference in terms of both UI and logic between the Gold and free version.
So it’s highly recommended that you take a look at our Getting Started guide (https://preventdirectaccess.com/docs/getting-started-with-prevent-direct-access-gold/) first. There is also a walkthrough under our Prevent Direct Access Gold settings on your website too.
Please remember to remove our free version before activating our Gold to prevent potential conflicts as well.
