In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Stats Graph missing after updateThank you for the verbose response. When I added the .htaccess I did not know that Apache could be configured such that my directive would cause the file to become inaccessible. Do you know a way to rewrite the Stats .htaccess file to avoid this conflict?
For context: I added the .htaccess file in response to a user whose charts would not appear because his wp-content directory included a .htaccess file forbidding access to all files.

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Stats Graph missing after updaterollinsr: I’m glad to hear you fixed the problem but unsettled by the new mystery of what’s wrong with the .htaccess file. I haven’t run into that problem myself. If you have the time and inclination to find out why Apache doesn’t like it, I’d be very grateful to know.

In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Stats Graph missing after updateI have seen this problem caused by failures to serve the flash file at wp-content/plugins/stats/open-flash-chart.swf. Try loading that in your browser. If it doesn’t load, either the file
isn’t installed properly or your server is configured not to serve it.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Stats Graph missing after updateThis often happens because the Flash file was not properly uploaded. Please download the plugin and copy the files to you server.

In reply to: Grabbing WordPress Statistics Data in the LoopIt’s stashed away to make a treasure hunt. It’s in the URL of your stats when you view them on WordPress.com. It’s also in the smiley image URL, the HTML source of your blog, and your database.

In reply to: Grabbing WordPress Statistics Data in the LoopMichaelH, thanks for posting the API URL. That is exactly right.
JordashTalon, please make sure you don’t try to make ten API requests for every request you get. I would advise you to cache the results of any stats API queries and tally them yourself for a while. Your page load times will thank you.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: Traffic StatsThe dashboard has its own menu. Stats adds itself to this menu. You can also get there by /wp-admin/index.php?page=stats.

In reply to: Weird stats error (Warning: Division by zero in)What version of the plugin are you using? What page (URL) are you looking at that gives that error?
There is no template tag available for this, nor any plans for it. View counts are not commonly shown to visitors. I think it looks amateurish.
However, we do make the data available. It’s possible to write a plugin to get the data from the API at http://stats.wordpress.com/csv.php and display it any way you like.

In reply to: WordPress.com Stats buggered since upgrading to 2.9I am the author of the Stats plugin and the WordPress.com stats system. The problems described here are not present in my WordPress 2.9 blog. Most users have no complaints. This is a minority issue with unknown cause.
I have offered to help debug this issue with several users claiming that Stats stopped working after upgrading to WordPress 2.9. Some resolved the problem by deactivating and deleting the plugin, then re-installing it manually. None of these users have provided the access I need to allow me to find the cause and a solution.
The last attempt got as far as this: all of the files were properly installed but the web server would not serve the flash file that displays the chart or any other file from the Stats plugin directory. When I requested the file, WordPress responded with 404 Not Found. This indicates a probably misconfigured server, for which the fault could be with the host, the administrator, or WordPress itself. I am quite sure that Stats is incapable of making its files invisible to the web server. That user gave up when I said I needed to log into their server.
I am still willing to help but I can’t do it without full cooperation from someone with an affected blog. I will need to log into your hosting account by secure shell (SSH) using your password or you will have to install a temporary key I will provide. You don’t need any technical skills of your own; you just need to be able to trust a contributing developer and Automattic employee. If you are willing, please email me at my first name at automattic.com.

In reply to: [Plugin: Stats] “Home page” suddenly showing up in stats? It’s a new feature. It doesn’t change how your stats are counted. It only exposes some data that was hidden before.
