  • Since I follow trunk on WordPress, I am updating every day.

I see too many plugins which haven’t been updated in months. That’s not good for a number of reasons.

But when I see a plugin author giving regular updates, that gives me more confidence in the plugin. I realize that not every update may be for me. It might be to solve a particular problem that some other user has. That’s okay. I might run into that problem in the future. It’s good to know that it’s been solved before I run into the problem.

I would rather see a plugin author actively engaged in keeping his plugin current than one who doesn’t.

WordPress changes almost daily and that’s a good thing.

I would much rather test a new update with only a few changes than have to test several updates at one time with many changes.

I was having the same problem with the “insert/edit embedded media” function in the editor.

I can insert most videos by copying the embed code and pasting it in the “Source” tab of the “insert/edit embedded media” function. But if it a <script>, it won’t let me do it in the Visual editor.

I can go into the HTML editor and paste the code, then save the file and it works.

Maybe not the best way to handle it, but it works in a pinch.

    Thanks Josh.

I think you found the problem. I installed ver. 1.7.3.1 and tested a couple of sites. Everything worked fine.

I’ll do more testing tomorrow and see if there are any problems, but it doesn’t look like there will be.

Maybe this will fix the problems others were having also.

    Thanks.

Some more info for you. I had the “cut”, “copy” and “paste” boxes unchecked. (I use the copy & paste functions from Firefox for that. And that is the way I was doing it before version 1.73 of Ultimate TinyMCE.)

Also, I tried copying and pasting from several different news sites to make sure it wasn’t a problem with the site.

But when I changed back to version 1.72 everything returned to normal.

I’ll try to do a comparison of the code between the two versions and see if I can spot something.

I didn’t try that way. I would have to go back to version 1.73 to find out. I switched to version 1.72 just to get it working.

I reverted back to Ultimate TinyMCE 1.72 and everything is working again.

    1. @sethmatics, I totally agree on this point. In my 20+ years of software development I’ve seen too much sloppy programming. (Much of which I had to correct.) I tried to make all the software I developed fast and efficient. In the past four years of using WordPress, I’ve tried to help different plugin authors with their plugins, which is all I’m doing here. I find PHP a pleasure to use compared to other programming languages.

    2. We agree on this point.

    3. I use Codepress Admin Columns for the columns in Post admin. There is a conflict with Josh’s post ID here, but leaving the ID number option blank solves the problem without a conflict. I think that was Josh’s point, i.e. that he tries to code without creating conflicts with other plugins.

As for the White Label CMS, it seems that it has problems too. (Although the authors seem very responsive to bugs. That’s good!) But this plugin is mainly for those who are developing sites for clients, and not those WP users who are developing their own sites.

Actually, I use a sandbox (local install) for everything in WordPress before I put it online. I can tweak it all I want and not worry about anything breaking.

My only problem is that I stay on trunk so I’m always ahead of the current version, although I do maintain local installs of all the current and past versions.

Josh’s plugin is working fine up to WP 3.4 alpha.

    sethmatics,

I disagree. If you look at the most popular plugins, you will see that the All In One SEO pack is the most popular.

Combining many functions into one plugin isn’t an unknown concept. If you’ve been following the development of this plugin, you know that Josh had already modified it to eliminate loading many fonts which bogged down sites.

I would give Josh an A+ for being responsive to user feedback. Just my opinion, of course, but I think the plugin is coming along very nicely.

    Thanks for the quick update.

I installed new version 1.1.3 and can verify that it does work in the latest WP 3.3 release.

You might want to put that it is compatible up to WP 3.3

    You’re welcome!

Another button you might want to consider is footnotes and citations. There are plugins for these but it makes more sense just to have a button for them.

Trying different combos now. The Like and Send buttons do show on the settings page when I have them selected. They don’t show up on the posts or pages, no matter what combination I use. (I assume you are calling the Like and Send buttons on the settings page from the fbplusone.png file, right?)

The path to fbplusone.png is correct because the +1 icon works. I’m wondering if it could be the positions on the Like and Send buttons? As far as I can tell fbplusone.png is only called by admin-style.css, so I believe it is a css problem.

I’m swamped with projects right now, but I’m going to investigate a little more this afternoon.

I’ve tried just about everything. I”ll experiment some more and let you know the results.

I do all of this on a local install so that I can control the environment, so I wouldn’t be able to give you the URL.

Actually I might have to end up writing my own script since none of the plugins do exactly what I need. I want to also have a “vote” button which will keep count and doesn’t connect to any outside servers. I want the feedback from users more than the sharing.

BTW, the Google +1 is showing up and you are pulling that from the same place that you get the Like button. I would think having separate icons in separate files would be a better way to go.

    Ron

Ok. Don’t forget to flush your cache also.

    Ron

Ollie, I did a complete reinstall, even installing the plugin manually.

Now I can’t even get pass “sections”. I create a poll and then create “sections” but it doesn’t save them. I can’t enter “questions” because there are no “sections”.

I compared the sections.php file on the old version with the sections.php file on the new version and they are the same, so I don’t understand why there’s a problem.

I checked the database before I did the manual reinstall and all the files from your plugin were gone, so the database was clean.

I just installed the version from GitHub. It did let me set up the poll. I ran the poll and everything was ok until the end. I got this printout on the screen “float(1312900677.3341)” and then the “Thank you for completing our survey”.

When I go to “results”, I get “No results yet”.

In the database, wp_wpsqt_sruvey_cache_results shows “none”. (I ran through the poll 3 times to make sure it had enough data. It didn’t save any of the results.) wp_wpsqt_all_results has no data.

I’ll let you know if I turn up something new.

    Ron

No, the latest update, 2.5.1 didn’t do it.

I also did the upgrade and nothing changed. Tried flushing the cache and nothing changed.
