Whenever you experience issues shortly after an update, it’s a good idea to start out troubleshooting by attempting to rule out conflicts with your theme or another plugin on your site. It’s possible you have something installed which was not updated to work with the newest version of WordPress.
If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/
It will create a new menu position under Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.

In reply to: Can You Recommend a ThemeI think you may be looking for a bit more than just a theme. Generally speaking, a theme is responsible for the visual styling of the front end of your site.
That being said, I’d probably go with something specifically designed to work with the block editor. Something like Twenty Twenty One (which is brand new) or the Go theme is probably a good starting point.
Regarding your digital downloads: depending on what you’re actually selling, you may want WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads. WooCommerce is generally more flexible and extensible for the average user, but if you’re certain you’re sticking to digital downloads, you may have a better experience with EDD overall.
Incorporating hand-drawn illustrations is a lot more complicated, and I’m not sure I can help with that one without having a better understanding of what you mean there. Are you just hoping to display an image in a block?
