I have products in Woocommerce on my website, that I sync using the plugin with my Facebook shop.

When I sell an item, as each is unique, I change the category in Woocommerce. This new category is one that I have excluded from syncing with Facebook.

Once I’ve changed the category I am unable to update the product due to the plugin as it tells me that category will not sync and only gives me the option of cancelling it going to the plugin settings to remove the category from not syncing.

One work around is to remove the exclusion, update product, go and put the exclusion back in. Very very cumbersom to have to do this every single time I sell something.

Other option seems to be to change the facebook setting for that one product to “Do not sync”. However, this then means I have to go and manually delete the product on FB. It also seems ridiculous to be able to set a category to not sync but then have to go and do all this manually.

Third option, though I’ve not tried it, would be to change the FB setting to “Synb and hide in catelog”. That’s no good as it means the catalog gets clogged up with multiple products that no longer exist.

What should happen is when I change the category to one I don’t want sync’d with FB it should simply remove the product from the FB catelog. At present I have to take multiple steps to achieve what should be a simple task.

I am using the current version of Woocommerce, WordPress and the plugin.

Can this please be fixed as this is a great plugin overall but with this limitation is a pain.

    Thanks

  • Hi @natator!

Thanks so much for reaching out, it’s really appreciated. 🙂

I’m going to double-check with a colleague here, because the way you’re using the category system may not have been a scenario that was taken into consideration here. While I can completely understand why you’re using this particular method, as each of your pieces is unique, most merchants will rarely change categories for a product once it’s been set up.

So let me check with a teammate here and I’ll come back to you with more information as soon as I can.

    Thank you so much,

    Julie 🙂

    Hey @natator!

    Thanks for your patience here!

I spoke with a colleague here. If it’s a unique item and is out of stock when sold, it should automatically be deleted from the Facebook catalog if it’s no longer available on your site. This may take a bit of time to be reflected on the Facebook side of things as it’s not an instant sync, although we do have a code snippet that can help with that.

This would mean you wouldn’t have to change the category at all. Do you think this might work for you?

Thanks for any other details here!

    Julie 🙂

    Hi Julie

So sorry but I missed your reply but thanks for doing so, it is greatly appreciated.

What I was trying to do was keep the previous things I’d made so they could still be seen but not bought. However, I’ve been doing a bit of a rethink, as “past products” was getting a bit large. I think I’m going to rethink how they are displayed, maybe just have a gallery or something. As such they won’t be there as products and therefore shouldn’t clash with the plugin.

Thanks once again for your help, I’m really sorry I missed your earlier replies.

    🙂
