In reply to: The best designed WordPress powered sitesOf course I would say mine… but of course I’m massively biased. And it also helps that I’m the only one with my theme.
There are some other themes I’ve seen, though, that I really, REALLY like.

In reply to: Disappearing Sidebar in IEpetit is right. IE handles the box model differently (dare I say, poorly). Sometimes is has to do with the has_layout property flag (don’t worry about it)… and sometimes it has to do with the left and right borders and padding.
More often than not.. when your sidebar gets pushed to the bottom of other content in IE… it is because IE thinks the sidebar is TOO WIDE. Find images or CSS-defined widths that may be wider than others, or just pushing the limits of the space the sidebar is supposed to fit into… and then try tweaking them to be thinner and see if this helps.
Also, as a general tip, make the sidebar about 5px thinner than it is allowed to be in that space… allowing for some “slop” can cover a multitude of sins.

In reply to: Shading for faux 3Dv :: Thanks for the info! I wasn’t relishing trying to hack a fix for a small sliver of the browser universe. And really now… why would a MAC user, of all people, run IE?! 🙂

In reply to: Shading for faux 3DShadows do not appear in Mac IE, but they look great in Mac Firefox, Safari, and Netscape! 🙂
Argh! Thanks for the heads up. This is why I ask the question. 🙂 I’ll have to investigate the MacIE issue… but this will be tricky. I shalt return! 🙂

In reply to: Kineda – new designspencerp :: Don’t feel bad…. there are a TON of people who still use 800×600. And for those reading this it’s NOT because these people are behind the times or uncool or whatever… some people do it because of their eyes… or their monitor is too fuzzy at high res to be able to see small font. There are many legitimate reasons.
I have a liquid center column on my site so that I will fill up any reasonable width (and will not allow below 740px, I think).

In reply to: Kineda – new designCriticism first. It’s a little wide. Consider making some of it liquid for folks with 800 x 600 (not me). And I had script errors when it loaded.
Other than that… I really like tghe design. Classy. Nice color set. Good layout!

In reply to: Featured PostYou can check what I did on my site. It’s similar to what you describe. I made a “featured” category that I excluded from all my category lists. I then made a sidebar section for that category.

In reply to: Flash files in About page?Umm… I don’t mean to make you sound foolish…. but does your FireFox have pop-up blocking turned on, or active content turned off?

In reply to: The best 3 wordpress site designs that you likeThe only thing I don’t like about some of the last sites metnioned were that they all start to look the same to me. There’s only so many ways you can display the same thing.
There a SlashDot article right here that talks about how a user judges the worth of a site in 50 milliseconds!?!
You’d better be impressing people quickly! 🙂
On a side note… who would be impressed by SlashDot on first glance? Not I.

In reply to: Pages and subpages for navigationI think Blix uses wp_list_pages(). Did you try using the “child_of=” argument?

Negative99 🙂 ok, I’m biased on that one…Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Pages and subpages for navigationHow are you displaying your pages in the sidebar? With a custom loop? Wp_list_pages()? That’s important.
And also how much PHP do you know? You could exclude, with wp_list_pages(), all of the pages you did NOT want. Or you could use the “child_of” argument to isolate where you are in the tree.
I checked the page you have listed and it doesn’t look like the example scenario you describe… so I can’t figure out what exactly your situation is.

In reply to: “This code is from Dynamic Web Coding” ???Natalie, I just checked out your site. I enjoyed the colors and the design. I wish, however, you were as supportive of site readability as you are of web standards.

In reply to: OpinionsI like the colors and the general layout. Very nice.
I will say that I found the flowing pastels and gentle transitions and borders to be in stark contrast to the actual content which was strikingly more turbulent, sharp, and at times chaotic. 🙂
