In reply to: Creating a Current Page Tabmoshu :: Wow, I didn’t know that… For simple layouts (95% of blogs) that would be just the ticket! 🙂 I really should read that codex more often.

In reply to: Pages vs Posts (take two)??? Come again?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Pages vs Posts (take two)Ok, I see what you guys are saying. Pretty much I’ll have to
handle them all manually. Maybe there’s still a way to do it
automatically.I could have php that lists out the children pages of my master
project page. And when it lists the pages it could get the first
200 characters or so of the page to provide a “blurb” of what
to expect… with the permalink then going to the individual
project page itself.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Pages vs Posts (take two)Okay, but then how would I have a “master” page that listed
the sub-pages as if they were posts? And then people could
click on the “permalink” to go to the individual project page.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Excluding all browsers but FireFox 1.5Umm… forgive my intrusion but is there any reason why cross-browser compatible columns are out of the question? Is it because this is going to be stricly CSS3 experimentation? I run a 3-column theme with an expandable center column (and min width) that renders correctly on all browsers of concern.
There is great info on this here: PositionIsEverything.net

In reply to: TypePad is looking pretty goodOops… that was supposed to read: “I use WordPress specifically because it IS hackable…”
Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: TypePad is looking pretty goodI can’t really imagine NOT using WordPress. Sure, I tried MovableType and whatever… but how can you go wrong with straight-up PHP and mySQL (no Perl) and the plethora of great plugins. I use WordPress specifically because it IT hackable… and I’ve hacked myself exactly the site I want.
Bottom line: I’m happy.

In reply to: My first theme from scratch…!Yes, the website needs to have a style about it… otherwise it will look like every other site, and despite our best efforts content alone usually doesn’t win readers… mostly because there’s LOTS of good content. You need some flavor… and I would also clean up the finer details (like cross-browser compatability and all those rounded corners… like on my site).
