Alas, the solution you’ve presented is not much of a solution, in my opinion. To half to essentially reload the htaccess file every time you create a page seems like a lot of extra work in the long run. The real solution is in finding out why WP won’t write to that htaccess file.
I do appreciate everyone’s efforts, though! I’ll keep on it when I have some time and if I ever do get it working I’ll post back here.

Isn’t it kind of a hassle to register now, though? In 1.5 you can’t register without a working email address. Also, if it gets out of control, I can just turn off the ability for new users to post.

I just wish someone in the know would let us know for sure if there is something we should be adding ourselves into the htaccess file. Sure, the permalinks page tells us what to put in there, but isn’t that just for taking care of the permalinks and not for the creation of new pages?

Thanks for trying to help Moshu, I really do appreciate it. I’m beginning to think I’m just SOL on this. I suppose I could try setting up another install of WP just to see if a clean, untweaked-by-me-version will let me create new pages. Yeesh, I really don’t want to do that…

In reply to: Looking for WP-Photos.php for 1.5.1.1 (or something like it)Well, I tried a number of those but I just couldn’t get them to work. On a whim, I stopped by AlexKing.org and found that he had posted a version of WP 1.5.1.1 with all of his plugins (including WP-Photos) installed by default. I DLed that, grabbed the WP-Photos plugin along with the mobile plugin he wrote and the grins plugin (the write page won’t display properly without it) and uploaded them. I also uploaded his entire WP-Admin file just to be safe although it looks like I didn’t have to do that.
Anyway, here’s where anyone else can get Alex’s WP 1.5.1.1 “Pluggin In” as he calls it:

I’m still testing everything and will post again if I get any errors and explain how I fixed them–if I was able to. If you don’t see any more posts, you can assume everything has gone well.

However, if I understand correctly, the plugin is supposed to add a section to the advanced version of the “write post” page, right? Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be doing that for me. I’ve got no other errrors as far as I can tell. Any ideas? I’m on WP 1.5.1.1, btw…

Sorry, I tried searching the codex, but I find it rather confusing. I mean, what’s the difference between the ‘go’ and the ‘search’ buttons, anyway?
