In reply to: Can’t Make New Static PagesWell, I tried a blank file like you suggested, made sure it was CHMODed to 666 and had a go. Still with the 404.
Thanks anyway, though.

In reply to: Can’t Make New Static PagesMan, I am baffled!
So, I upload the old htaccess file from 1.5 (not 1.5.1.1) when I was still able to create pages and WP lets me create one page. I try again and no go. This is SO frustrating because the behavior is so inconsistent.
I really think this is all because WP can’t see that my htaccess file is writable. I know it is writable because I’ve set it to 666 myself and checked to make sure it was still set at that.
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated!

In reply to: Can’t Make New Static PagesRight, I’ve set it to be writable, but WP still says it isn’t. So… I think something else on my server is screwing things up. Again, I’ll try to old htaccess file with my fingers crossed and see what happens but since WP claims it’s not writable, even though I’ve tried CHMODing it to both 666 and 777. Now the htaccess file in question *does* need to go in the WP directory, right? Because my index is in my server’s root directory and not the WP directory.

In reply to: Can’t Make New Static PagesThat’s my question, too. I used to be able to create new pages and I do have my old htaccess file in my site archives–but which part of it do I copy over to the new htaccess file without screwing everything else up?

In reply to: Looking for WP-Photos.php for 1.5.1.1 (or something like it)Cool, thanks Macmanx! I’ve worked out a simple fix by using a series of quicktag buttons to insert img src tags that point to my photo directory in the meantime. It’s cumbersome, but it works. However, when I have time, I’ll definitely check out those links. Thanks, again!

In reply to: Introducing WP-Amazon PluginThanks for the info and I hate to say this again because it’s obvious that you’ve got a lot of enthusiasm for your plugins which are very impressive, but they’re just not what I need. WP-amazon did exactly what I needed it to do. I could do a search of Amazon without having to know the AISN/ISBN or even use it once. It was very hands off–granted, it couldn’t do as much as yours can, to be sure.
Sorry, man–but thanks, anyway! I’m sure other people use and enjoy your plugins. 🙂

In reply to: multiple main “index” pages–possible?Switching templates doesn’t seem to work for me. I think it’s because my template is simply my main index file and not what is in the theme folder. Thanks anyway, though!

In reply to: Current Category FeedThanks for this thread! It’s been very helpful.
However, I have one question for Cypher (or anyone else who knows the answer): Is there anyway to have the category description and name used in the feed as opposed to the title of your blog and blog description?

In reply to: Invalid Argument on line 404Ah, cool–well, cool in theory, anyway. I can’t get that to work. I think because I’m not using themes, WP won’t switch them for some reason. I’m literally using the index.php in my root as the main template. All those theme files get frustrating for me. I just want everything in one file so I don’t have to keep bouncing back and forth.

In reply to: Invalid Argument on line 404what’s that? Never heard of it.

In reply to: Invalid Argument on line 404Hm, I can’t seem to get this to work. Man, I’m having the worst luck lately. It doesn’t seem to load the alternative template. Might it be something with my htaccess not being writable? I swear it is, but for some reason WP refuses to agree. I’ve even CHMOD’ed it to 777 as a test, still no go.
Ugh… I can’t tell you how long I’ve been trying to set up a separate main page for just some of my categories to be displayed. On WP 1.2 I was able to do this without too much trouble at all. Now, it’s a freakin’ nightmare. I’ve been working on this problem for days.

In reply to: Introducing WP-Amazon PluginWell, I had a look at Chait’s plugin and it seems to do everything except what I need it to. Nice plugin, in theory, but all it claims to do is let you put stuff in your sidebar–lists of Amazon products. Cool, but all I need is what WP-Amazon did which was insert individual product listings into posts.
Fingers crossed for an updated WP-amazon for 1.5.1.1 🙂

In reply to: Looking for WP-Photos.php for 1.5.1.1 (or something like it)Thanks for the suggestions–I tried to get iimage gallery to work with no luck. Even read a good deal of the comments on the page to try to work out my problem–never managed to do it. Qdig seemed to unstable to try–I mean, the plugin author himself says it’s buggy.
Oh well–thanks for trying anyway. Maybe I should just contact Alex King and beg him to do a 1.5 version of WP-photos.

In reply to: Introducing WP-Amazon PluginWell, I’ve been using WP-amazon for a while now and would like to stick with it if possible in 1.5.1.1 My problem are these errors:
Warning: main(admin.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/www/thepete/theblog/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 3
Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘admin.php’ (include_path=”) in /home2/www/thepete/theblog/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 3
I get them after I click on “Insert Content from Amazon.com”.
Any ideas? In the mean time, I just might give Chait’s plugin a try.
