OK, in case someone else has this trouble, it seems to be something with my database and not my server. I deleted the tables on my back up db and then tried accessing WP2.5. It installed fine. However, once I imported the db again, it threw the exact same errors.

From here it looks like some 2.3 dbs are not compatible with 2.5.

Any advice would be very welcome.

No takers? It’s been over a day now.

Good thing I tested WP2.5 on a backup server and not my live site. I’d hate to be stuck with these errors all this time.

Sorry to bump a thread like this, but I’m not sure how else to get help. I already searched this forum, but no one else has posted about this specific problem and since I had this problem on both an upgrade and a clean re-install, I don’t think this is my mistake.

This time I tried Otto42’s suggestion and that works, too! Thanks both of you guys!

Actually, I stand corrected–it’s actually pretty easy to import everything as a raw SQL file then, in phpMyAdmin, go into wp-options and change all of the mentions of the old server to the new one. I was actually shocked at how much of a breeze it was. Still, an automatic way to do this would be a great thing.

This is a good question because for many of us who have been using WP for years, this is a common problem. To guard against a catastrophic problem, I am trying to set up a mirror on my site and have the same issue. I don’t have access to my php.ini file but at one point I did and changing the size didn’t work. There must be some way to easily import the XML file from elsewhere on the server. I know I can upload it via FTP, but through the WP admin, it won’t work.

So, how can we get XML files with a decent size to be imported to get around certain size changes? We shouldn’t have to go running to our host every time we need to import something.

My plan is to import that XML once a week (or more, if possible). But as the weeks and months go on, my 19mb XML file will only get bigger and Gerald’s suggestion of slicing it up into little pieces would just take too damn long. :\

Sorry, but I find it frustrating that this is the case–I am trying to set up a mirror for my site and this is one of a handful of things I can’t believe that WP doesn’t let us do. We should be able to import individual tables. In my mirror site, it’s got a different URL and plugins and so on because I don’t need all of the bells and whistles of the main site. So, all I need to be able to do is import just the posts, comments, categories/tags. But it’s recipe for failure? Importing everything is a recipe for a lot of extra work.

So, Moshu, are you saying it’ll *never* work? Or it’s just a pain to make it work? Also, what ends up being the problem? As in, what is the specific issue with importing individual tables?

See, I have been able to import the posts and comments tables without issue, but when I imported the three terms-related tables, they wouldn’t import properly. I’d only have a handful of categories that would show up inside the WP admin pages, while it looked like all the posts on the main page were displaying all of the categories just fine.

Thanks jonimueller! Seems odd that there’s no easier way to do it short of a plugin, but hey, if it works, I’ll take it!

gummybear, hey late than never! I just hope Tri-Fusion comes back to check. 🙂

UPDATE: Ok, well, it seems to add a few formatting issues that I haven’t worked out yet–using this plugin basically means that you’re going to have to start using br and p tags in every post–I think this is true even if you use the WYSIWYG editor. So, be warned.

Uh, how did this topic get resolved if there’s no solution listed?

I’m guessing I need to go into the WP code and slice out the part where it sticks in the p tags.

I seem to be having the same problem on the same version of WP :\

Ahhh, very helpful advice. Thank you!

That’s not a major sacrifice to make (filling in the post slug field) or perhaps will another plugin that would fill the slug automatically would do the trick? I think I remember one from a couple years back.

Either way, thanks again for the advice!

Well, I can’t seem to work out how to call the permalink or even the slug. I thought the slug was “post_name” but swapping out “post_content” for it causing the plugin to do nothing. Any ideas what the correct tag would be?

    Cool, thanks!

I don’t know if Twitter Tools is troublesome for anyone else. My particular install of WP often presents challenges regarding commonly used plugins. Not sure if it’s me or my server, but Twitter Tools just ain’t working for me and it’s too complicated for my feeble coding skills to try to tweak. However, your plugin does just one thing and does it really well. How difficult might it be to just swap out where your code calls the post content for the title and post permalink?

I’ll let you know how it goes. Wish me luck–I may still be in over my head 🙂

I appreciate your interest in creating a plugin just for that purpose, but sadly Twitter Tools doesn’t seem to work properly on WP 2.3.2–at least it doesn’t on my install of 2.3.2. Your plugin works *perfectly*.

Also, even before When I was on WP 2, Twitter Tools would post to Twitter even when I would edit a post, with no way to tell it not to (unlike your plugin). Now, under 2.3.2, not only does it Tweet with every post edit, it pulls from Twitter my latest Tweets and miscategorizes them and assigns them to the wrong author. I’ve tried posting about this to Alex King’s website, but he hasn’t replied.

Perhaps I’ll try tweaking your plugin myself, and see how far I can get with making a new plugin that simply cross-posts the subject title and URL. I’ll let you know if I get anywhere with it and then, if you don’t mind, perhaps I can release it on my own with the proper credit to you, of course.

I’m sorry–so, are you saying it’s intentional that it retweets when you update/edit a post?

I’m curious about this as well. Thanks!
