Thanks for responding Gabriel – but I definitely have php5 on my server.

Its 5.30 am here in Australia and I’ve been working all night so I’m about to head off for some zzzzzzzzz. I’ll run a php.info check when I get up later today and see what it says. Not that I’m all that sure what to look for. LOL

Love your work! Thanks for sharing this 🙂

Johnny – the pages created by eshop are just ordinary pages that you can edit or delete or whatever through your dashboard just like you would any other page or post.

But I think eshop will have put a table or two in your database that you should clean out. I suggest you check it in phpmyadmin against the standard installation database set-up and see if there’s something there that doesn’t belong to the core WP install or any other plugins you’ve got.

You can see the standard database table descriptions here

Okay – it pays to be cautious but this person has been nice enough to write a free plugin so it’s also a good idea not to jump to conclusions about this.

A quick look around some techy sites and I understand that:

jvmimpro.jar is a java file – which I’m assuming this plugin is not.
    jvmimpro.jar virus is nasty. 🙂
There are a lot of false-positives being returned by some av programs about this virus.

The fact that the name of the zip for this plugin has the word “jar” in it’s name might be tricking some antivirus into thinking it’s an unrecognisable java file and so they interpret it as a threat – eg the jvmimpro trojan thingy.

False positives are very common amongst anti-virus programs (my own experience with Symantec was that it frequently returned them – even for the most trusted programs such as Firefox and Google) and when you combine that tendency with the word “jar” in James Rantenen’s plugins NAME I suspect that might be what’s happened here.

If you were infected with jvmimpro.jar I reckon you’d know about it.

I have just downloaded and tested it with my antivirus – Avast – even tho I don’t actually want the plugin at this stage. I trust Avast after having used several other av programs and done a lot of research about which is the best one, Avast ranks very highly in all security reviews. (which is why I was willing to take the risk and download this just to test it for viruses)

There is no virus in this plugin download according to Avast.

I’m not saying don’t be cautious – as with any download you should check and double check – but it looks to me like James’ plugin is perfectly safe.

James – maybe you should run a few scans just to be sure and then… er…. perhaps change the name of the download (grin).

There is a script for importing content at this link:

    joomla-wordpress-import

    NOTE:

    • It does NOT import users – but the author mentions a tweak you can make to configuration.php to at least alter defalt author name.
    • It doesn’t work for all versions of Joomla – but the author has an extension to convert your Joomla installation back to a 1.0.13 so that you can import it into WordPress – (check the comments, he links to the extension in there, I dont know how effective it is since I didn’t need it)
    • It doesn’t work with a 2.7 WordPress installation – but you can install an earlier WP version (I think it works with 2.3.2), import content from Joomla and THEN upgrade to WP 2.7 (that’s what I did)
    • You need to set up categories in WordPress to match the Joomla content BEFORE you import and people have had some difficulties so read the directions and comments etc carefully.

My recommendation is to test it out first to get a feel for how it works and how you might be able to manipulate it for best results, then set it all up for real. Just make sure you use a whole new database for playing, testing and finally running the real import.

As for registered members, with one of my sites I had Joomla linked to an SMF forum so I plan to find a way to get the 1,000 or so members imported by linking the WordPress installation to my forum – preferably SMF – but I will convert to another forum first if it will put my members into WordPress (eg phpbb). (I’m also open to any and all suggestions here!!!)

Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks Michael. That’s actually the sort of thing I was ideally looking for as I am trying to learn how to do things without altering too much base code and without using plugins, where possible.

But the plugin mentioned above is perfect for my clients needs and I think will also be great for building a portfolio page.

I really appreciate the help (and how quick it was) from you both – what a great community this is turning out to be.

    Cheers

    Oh My God!! That’s brilliant!

How in the heck did I not find that one!!??? Thank you so much. I just cant believe in all those hours I spent searching under every keyword I could think of I didn’t come across that plugin.

    You’re a life saver –

    Bless!!

    This might help:

    truncate titles

    And maybe this:

    wp-blurb

    There isn’t one by default.

But you can download this plugin to add it to your blog

    wp-useronline

Yeah I can see it on your site and I can see exactly where it is in your source code. It’s the very first letter at the very top of your header.php – it’s sitting up there before the code begins right next to the first < of the file.

I don’t know a lot about how WordPress files all work together but if you can’t find it where it shows up in the source code (ie in header.php) then perhaps it’s in one of the core files for WordPress, like wp-blog-header.php. Don’t rely on me though, I’m just guessing.

    Very odd problem!!! LOL

tdo – when you try to insert paypal code with a “buy now” or “donate” button into a page or post, the editor in WordPress doesn’t properly render the code. You end up with all sorts of errors from paypal instead of being sent to the payment page and people have reported some odd behaviour from the editor such as formatting placed using the html window disappearing after you save the page/post.

It’s frustrating because Paypal provide a way to easily get the code to put in your website but it wont work in WordPress. I’ve used it successfully in the widgets section – by posting the code into a text widget – but have not been able to get it to work in the posts themselves, which is what a lot of people need.

So some of us are looking for an answer (ie is there something we’re not doing right?) or an alternative.

I think you need something that inserts php into posts without using the built in editor – so I’m not sure how TDO miniforms would achieve this. I already use your excellent plugin so I’m kinda familiar with how it works and was more than curious when I found this thread while desperately seeking a solution.

    Hi

I know this is an oldish post and I’m a bit of a newbie but when I read this I noticed the /form> was on a separate line to the line above it. This means there’s a break where there shouldn’t be one and this can mess up the paypal code. If you move </form back to be at the end of the line above it this might solve your problem.

Apparently Paypals code is notorious for this odd behaviour.

BTW how do you use TDO miniforms to integrate paypal??? If this works I would be thrilled as I found your post because I’m looking for a simple way to insert paypal “Buy Now” links in posts for several products and nothing I’ve found so far works. Can you point me to somewhere that gives instructions on how to do this?

    Hey pomspot

Nice pluging but it might be helpful if you had somewhere on your site for people to post questions or issues with the plugin. Or if there is somewhere there to do this sorry but I couldn’t find anything, other than a couple of admin posts announcing the plugin but with comments turned off (frustratingly!!).

So I guess this is the place to post my question….??? I was interested in this plugin and installed it fine but it looks like it can only be used for one item. I guess that’s what it’s purpose is but I just wanted to ask if there is a way to use it for multiple items on one WordPress installation.

If not, does ANYONE know of a plugin that will help set up a very simple ecommerce for a business that’s just selling a few products online as part of their “real world” business and are happy to just use Paypal and cheques/direct deposit. Everything I find is either too complex and overkill for my client (eg wp-ecommerce) or buggy or too simple and only for ONE product.

Or have I made a mistake going with WordPress – or is there just a simple way for me to do this myself. I’m not a coder – just a graphic designer and content writer. Any help most desperately appreciated. I’ve been working on solving this for DAYS now 🙂

    FWIW

I reckon you should get a fresh copy of the plugin and then manually reinstall the updated version again – I recall that working for me once with a plugin.

All in One SEO plugins are working fine in my sites – all running 2.7

“Miscellaneous” is under “Settings” in left column, right at the bottom below “permalinks”

There is no “Gallery” on your dashboard unless you’ve installed a 3rd party plugin gallery. Then there might be. Otherwise WP doesn’t come with separate gallery management you just upload and add images to your posts/pages via the upload link in the editor. When you edit a post or page – at the top of the editing screen, look next to the words “upload/insert” – the funny looking symbol that looks like a tv screen.

    Hope that helped
