i thought you said earlier in this post it didn’t matter what version one was running (fort fricken knox entry)
and who wants to be an early adopter with wordpress software? i am running 2.5 on a site but seriously consider it still beta and i do want to upgrade by oldest/largest site to 2.5 eventually.
now back to the issues at hand. just got hacked this week. was hacked in 1/08 and today found this thread thank goodness. as a result i just found the culprit in plugin “commentluv” and trying to comprehend from this thread what to do with it.

btw – someone mentioned earlier about a quick-scan desitination for when something this big happens. this is a big forum and it ain’t so easy sometimes to find things.

how does one put a server level password on wp-admin?
this may be off topic; because of the hack all my pages are posts now. is this fixable? the biggie is my forum behaves like a post. the data is there i just can get to it…
kzak, thanks much. knowing what the cause is helps with the debugging. btw – how did you find the answer. i posted several times months ago concerning the “//..//” and got no response.

In reply to: set up a simple static home pageThis is a very good solution for a non-blog look and a great template for down the road development as it looks like you can put recent posts from the blog on this page, something Technorati will recoginize.
It does not pass the validation test, another matter and easy to fix when you are in the mood.

is there a header for pages that i am supposed to see?

In reply to: Reinstall?whoa! i am up! however, i have one lingering problem. my pages have disappeared and now reside in posts. today meandering around the forum i jumped into another thread with the same issue. interestingly this is my second time. my solution was to just copy the posts into new pages and delete the posts.
i have also lost my forum my forum as it behaves like a page. the forum content is there but i get a 404 for both pages/forum along with this error message…WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ” at line 1]

anyway, each time a disaster happens one learns that much more…
moshu, extreme prophetic on your part = the wp-options.php was crashed! they fixed it and checked rest of tables. isp asked if that fixed my isues. my isp does not know wp that well. i am backed up.
now the big question. what’s next?
1) put back install.php, close eyes, push the red button
2) rename database, rename config, do 1)
3) get another coffee

1) why do you want a static page? because you don’t like the look as described above or because you want a temp page up there until you figure things out.
2) if you want a web page look on your home page follow the example above but know this. in addition to the very articulate message above you may also want to research if you want technorati to index (keep track of the links to your site). the technorati answer is a bit drawn out so before anyone elaborates a little more feedback from you would be helpful.

so i ask them to set up my user/password etc. at their end and give it to me. i drop their config into mine.
