In reply to: can’t select databaseok – I AM IN! My host did the following…
mysql> grant all on database name.* to username@localhost identified by ‘password’;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)This kind of stuff is both maddening and rewarding – I guess ! ;-O

In reply to: file permissionsYou would think install4free would work. The solution is in the details -maybe. Before you try reinsalling again, think about this. I stopped changing permissions through my ftp client and do it on the server with software provided by my host to narrow down accountability and have support = cpanel. When I got my host involved they finally had me migrate off of plesk to cpanel. I still have problems as you can see if you visit the forum π but the permissions thing seems to be solved.
I feel for your pain. One works. One doesn’t!

In reply to: file permissionsi agree – i love doodble bee!
what is the downside to reinstall again? sorry about this but it worked on permissions once before for me. how are you editing your permissions? ftp client? cPanel? i got rid of plesk because it was a permissions/naming nightmare for me.

In reply to: can’t select databasei triple checked. i keystroked and copy/paste. i copy/paste and sent to my isp. i just sent them something regarding my phpMyadmin client. i thought i would open up a new database but it does not give me the option and it says in red, no priviledges. this is my first venture in phpmyadmin so i asked to see if it was normal. next i tried the msql connect () function and got a #1064 syntax error. here is my query: $dbc = mysql_connect ($host, $user, $password);
so close ;-(

In reply to: file permissionsdon’t know the answer to your question, doodlebee might. my line of thinking at this point is it would be strange if both were set exactly the same and one was not working. i would match the one that is working and see what’s up.

In reply to: best practice installok, you confirmed that i am supposed to get unique passwords for each install. i was having dns issues and completely forgot about this small but important detail. i went through my emails – i can’t find the unique password for a site. would have to delete existing and then reinstall a new wp to get a new password?
