Worrying about Google or page rank is your first mistake.
Who cares? If you write something the interests many, or somethat that is consistenty entertaining you will get links.

While many require manual code entry of some sort almost all I have used, 30 on one blog alone, have a readme file that gives the code to be entered and what file to place it in.

At least one of your entries contains an image and write up from another site that is not referenced.
It may or may not be copyrighted. In any case credit should have been given.

As far as trackbacks go, it is generally regarded as good etiquite to write a short note in your blog post, linked to the other blog post you sent the trackback to.
For example, say both of you have an entry related to charity for the Gulf Coast. Somewhere in your post you would note the other blog and link to their related post, plus send the trackback.

Trackbacks can only be sent from your blog if you manually enter a trackback URL to track. They are entered on your write post page as “Send trackbacks to:” then the box for the URL.
A pingback can be disabled via your “options” > “discussions” page. It’s the top line that reads, “Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)”
My advice is disable it. Every link you include in an entry will be “pinged” if the function is enabled, even your own previous posts.
Plus it slows down posting if the posts contain links to sites that have no pingback function, online news sites, other blogging software, etc, etc.Forum: Plugins

The “FAQ’s” you have looked up are for WP1.5.2
WP 1.2 doesn’t have a presentation page or themes. WP 1.2 uses style sheets (CSS) that can be swapped out. A good list is Alex Kings
If for some reason you can’t or won’t upgrade to WP 1.5.2 look through those WP styles, dowload the one you prefer and swap out your current style sheet and the images.
Having said all that PLEASE upgrade to WP 1.5.2 It is by far easier to work with, has many themes and is more secure.
