  • Pinoy.ca is right, the answers you get here about vague terms used by your stats software may indeed be nothing like what the author actually intended.

I will offer a guess though, based on nothing more than what *I* would mean if I said that…

If I wrote that, hits would be raw page views, that is, when a page is loaded in a browser.

Visits however, would involve a timed component. An estimate based on a number of page views in a particular narrow window.

For instance, during my visit to your site, which might last 5 minutes, I could click on 20 links, so my 1 visit would translate to 20 hits.

Again, this is just a guess, only the author truly knows what they mean.

clearly you were mistaken… resentment of those who feel entitled to handouts for doing absolutely nothing, is quite common, not just on the forums.

This is a support forum… something that requires support is supposed to be standing already. You want us to crawl for you. Not gonna happen.

Plenty of really basic questions around here that even you could answer, if you want to really show everyone you’re better than me.

    Yeah, didn’t think so.

PS: if you have the decency to ponder why people would treat you this way, ask yourself if it has anything to do with you calling someone who helped you, a dickhead, just because she didn’t mother you.

it would be a very bad thing if that DID display for me.

There’s not much I can suggest for you until you’re sure you’ve restored your DB appropriately. If your host has a problem with the database restoration options in cpanel, then they should fix that for you without charging you.

If you don’t want to test that theory, perhaps a visit to the cpanel forums might be in order?

Consider doing the restore via phpMyAdmin, also available via your cpanel.

Since the beginning of time, those who don’t know have EXPECTED those who DO know to just ‘help’ them because they can.

You think maybe we resent it? Damn right we do, but we get over it and we come post here anyway because you’re just so damned cute when you’re helpless.

Just have a little respect for someone who DOES know and still chooses to wave you toward an answer despite having a keen appreciation of how lazy you’ve been in not finding the answer yourself.

PS: I love me some dogpile.

Based on your opening post I was sure that all you needed was a hint.

I’m glad it’s working out for you. I’m using the plugin myself on a new project and I find it quite valuable. I’m not fond of the way it makes forms via widget-style drag and drop, but thankfully it doesn’t really require that you use it’s own forms, so I’m extremely happy.

Another thumbs up for TDO 🙂

if the default theme works, the problem is your other theme. There should be no hard-coded absolute paths in there anyway… if there are, that’s a problem.

also, it’s possible that your css is loading, but the image urls in your css are broken, check those too.

LOL spam within spam within spam within spam.

Awesome… if not for the username of the poster, this might have been cute 🙂

ah yes, the options too 🙂

I don’t see why this move is a good idea though… it feels like swapping one bad idea for another.

In reply to: Auto pagination for posts

    not to your readers.

automatic pagination would break your pages arbitrarily, which invariably means breaking them in the most stupid and illogical spots.

do your readers a favour and paginate your long posts manually, after you’ve written the thing, at the point of proof-reading.

I’m telling you, start with a fresh file.

The first sign of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, but expecting a different result. Don’t do what you’ve been doing so far.

    1) fresh file (download it again)
    2) edit with wordpad
    3) save
    4) upload by FTP (no other method)

notepad can suffer from encoding issues, so don’t even bring your file close to notepad or anything else.

I blame browsers sometimes too, but I suck at web development.

rename the directory using your favourite FTP program.

changing your address in any way may break the links to files in your blog posts, like images for example.

responso, please start with a NEW freshly downloaded wordpress wp-config.php file.

Edit it with Wordpad, NOT notepad or anything else, then upload.

You DEFINITELY have some kind of (invisible?) characters in your file. Reinstalling will not help you, only using a fresh file.

keeping in mind that because everyone wants to be the first hit in google for their chosen keywords, it’s often not actually possible to engineer that regardless of expertise, unless the rest of the internet decides that your site is awesome.

that of course depends largely on your keywords and the amount of time you plan to spend on top of the list.

SEO experts are great, but as Joni said, they’re expensive, and can often yield disappointing results in the short-to-medium term, so you really need one that’s prepared to short-change themselves if necessary, by explaining the issues.

Here’s the summary as I read it… correct me if I’m wrong.

    1) the default theme works perfectly after the upgrade, permalinks and all.
    2) your preferred theme does not.
    3) you suspect things other than the theme.

Let me lay this out as strongly as I can. If all other things are equal, that is, all the plugins are still active, the wordpress files are the same, the rewrite rules identical, the server identical… and the only difference between a working blog and a dysfunctional one is the act of changing themes…

… then regardless of whether you can see something wrong with the theme, the problem *is* the theme. Focus your efforts there.
