It’s possible that there might be a conflict with one of your current plugins.
Try disabling all of your plugins except Jetpack, using an incognito browser tab. Then try testing again to see if the issue persists.
If that resolves your issue, you can find what was causing it by enabling each plugin one by one while continuing to test.

The site needs a Jetpack connection to make CDN/Lazy load images work because it makes a secure connection to save the mirrored images to our cache servers.
I’d suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to allow our IP addresses listed here:
* **https://jetpack.com/support/how-to-add-jetpack-ips-allowlist/**
Please note that these IP addresses could change (or more could be added) at any time, which could break your connection to Jetpack. For this reason, we discourage allowing the listing of specific IPs, although it may be the only option with some hosts.

I checked the gallery, and it is something with the Visual Composer on rendering the CDN images.
Indeed, you have CDN images delivered in other sites’ parts, but the Visual Composer plugin is blocking the cached images inside the galleries.
We’d like to help you with this, but we’re unable to as this has to do with a 3rd party plugin, and we are not able to provide support for 3rd party products.

I tested your site, and the images are showing on my end.
Some issues you encounter with your WordPress.com blog or account can be solved by changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies.

Regarding your questions:
1. Do you think the gravatar is not displaying in the Jetpack new post email to senders because of the settings in the email client they (and I) are using?
That is a possibility. I checked your Jetpack connection and status, and there were some entries with HTTP protocol instead of HTTPS. Due to security, some readers, especially Gmail, don’t load HTTP images anymore. I updated the URLs on our end, and the images should load correctly now.
2. Am I right in thinking then that if my subscribers have not allowed external images to load in their email, there is nothing I can do from my end to enable this, and the gravatar holder will remain blank – and look really silly?
You can publish a post explaining this glitch and informing how your readers could solve it on their end (the links we sent you earlier).
Or, you can share your direct feed to them, so the users can choose to follow you directly via browser. Here it is.
3. Following the directions above, I can see that my Gmail account is already set up to allow external images, but the gravatar did not load. The picture I sent with the post (i.e., the single picture above the read more line so that it appears in the email) does display. Why would the gravatar be different?
I believe the wrong HTTP protocol causes it. Note that browser extensions like AdBlock could cause missing images too.

Regarding your question, yes, Jetpack sends the new posts notification email, but I checked, and your site had some staging site URL entries that could cause these errors.
I’ve updated these URLs to the correct one. Could you check if it is working on your end, please?

The other admins can connect to the Jetpack, using their own accounts to open the possibility to share their posts directly on their social media using Publicize.
Just disregard the notification if the admins don’t want to do it.
