In reply to: [Gutenberg] HORRIBLEI regret to read that you had a horrible time on your first try of Gutenberg. There is a slight learning curve from the old editor to Gutenberg, for sure.
the blocks are almost impossible to see on the page
Is this because of low contrast of the boundaries? The light gray might be an issues there.
The Block settings are for the particular block where you just clicked. Only the settings for the active block are visible in the sidebar > Block tab.
nothing works properly
If you get another minute, maybe you can elaborate on what exactly doesn’t work. The “Try Gutenberg” phase, is meant to get feedback from users like you and find out what stumbling blocks keep people before having a pleasant experience with Gutenberg, especially if there are incompatibilities with other plugins, themes and operating systems.
I hope, you give it another try in the near future, though.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Completely wiped my home page made with Divi!Ooopps. Yes, Gutenberg doesn’t work with all page builders yes. I am glad to read you had revisions enabled!
I know the DiviTeam is working on Gutenberg readiness. About two weeks ago the Divi founder published a blog post about the team’s progress working onGutenberg-readiness.
You might want to use it on a non-production site in the meantime.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] EPIC FAIL and very aggravatingHi Marie,
You have an interesting writing style. Thank you for trying Gutenberg and taking the time to write your review.
Impossible to put images in the text of a paragraph
You could add an image block before the paragraph and then align it left or right as you need it.
Impossible to format more than one paragraph at a time
You are right: Applying formatting to more than one paragraph is not possible at the moment. I believe I saw a github issue already in the list of things to work on for the Gutenberg team. I’ll double-check and if it isn’t, I’ll file one myself.
As a work around, you could use the “Classic” Block under “Formattiing”. It has the same toolbar as the Classic editor, so you can use it for the longer text segments. And once you used it a couple of time it’ll be listed under your “Most” used blocks.
Maybe you want to give it another swirl with above suggestions and see how that works for you. It’s a learning curve for sure.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] I hate it.Patrick, thank you so much for taking the time to elaborate on your Gutenberg experience.
The block UI is still in flux with various different scenarios considered. And I am sure you get used to the size of the buttons, if you give it another try and actually use it some more in real content creation situations.
Good point regarding the Code editor. To be honest, whenever I used the text editor currently I really don’t use any of the buttons, so I didn’t noticed that they are actually missing. Interesting. I know, there are quite a few developers who asked for a syntax highlighting in the Code Editor.
As for the whitespace, it’s more a taste issue, I suppose… I happen to like whitespace around things. So it’s probably hard to find the right settings for everyone. You might get used to it, once you are a past the initial, second and third “Ahhh this is horrible”.
That the meta boxes are glued to the bottom of the screen and are not moveable has been raised by a few other users.
Yes, mobile editing has considerably increased. I found myself editing posts and pages on the fly, while away from my computer. Knowing that I can edit on my phone, I found myself doing it much more often than before. I saw lots of people in meetings trying it before and fail, so we might be surprised how much this is going to be used once it’s released into core.
Now that you have tested it, and feel so strongly about it, you could check out some of the design discussion on GitHub and learn more behind the reasoning for decisions. If you are up for it, you could even get involved and chime in.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] I hate it.Sound you really had an awful experience with Gutenberg! Your feedback is very interesting and valuable. If you don’t mind, I have a few follow-up questions.
Something really doesn’t seem to be right on your display.
5 x 5 cm to translate it into inches: I don’t think there are any 2″ square icons / blocks in the editor view. Maybe you can elaborate on your view, and include if you might use an additional plugin that might interfere?
What tools / feature would you expect for the HTML Editor?
Given that you have oversized button, the white space might also be increased by something outside of Gutenberg.
Very interesting observations, Patrick.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Errors, too many clicks to get things doneYes, you are right, Gutenberg is not yet ready to be released. Your feedback is very helpful. And it really should be a much better experience in a couple of months.
If you get a minute, would you be able to reproduce the error message you receive when inserting an image? What’s the error message, and is there an corresponding error message in your browser console? It could be also a plugin conflict….
I’d be happy to file an issue on the github repository so this can be fixed in one of the future versions.Forum: Reviews
In reply to: [Gutenberg] Never ever!Glad you got a chance to test Gutenberg with your configuration. Yes, you are right, it certainly not done yet. One of the goals of this “Try Gutenberg” call-out is to get more users like you test it. And your comments are quite valuable. Thank you for taking the time.
May I asked you what plugin you are using, that caused your display to get scrambled?Yes, the old editor is already available. Search for “Classic Editor” in the WordPress repository. The plugin is maintained also by the WordPress Core team, and will be available for a while after the Gutenberg editor becomes the default editor.
After the upgrade to Gutenberg 3.5 it now seems to work in various forms:
as a shortcode in a paragraph block, as a shortcode block and also in a CustomHMTL block.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Image uploading fails in Gutenberg editorIf you use the Debug log, they will be stored in a file called ‘debug.log’ in the /wp-content/ folder.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Image uploading fails in Gutenberg editorThat’s better, still not particular helpful, but it seems that the posting of an image into the media library via the REST API didn’t work. Might be a permission problem, could be a size problem.
The “Internal Server Error” is a general error bu the WP Debug logs might tell us more.
Do you have access to the server? Do you know how to turn on WP Debug Log?
Here is the documentation as a refresher.

I have found the WP debug log, the most helpful- This reply was modified 7 years, 9 months ago by Birgit Pauli-Haack.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Image uploading fails in Gutenberg editorThanks for showing the video.
It would be helpful to know the Gutenberg version. If possible, upgrade to 3.5 which was just released and see if the error still occurs
This sounds like a Javascript error message. Could you into the browser console and copy/paste or screenshot the error message from there?
If you are using Google Chrome, use the 3-dot menu on the top right, select More Tools > Developer Tools.
Once there, use the “Console” tab to see the messages of the browser console.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Public Post Preview; Special charactersYou are certainly welcome!

In reply to: [Gutenberg] Public Post Preview; Special charactersJust as a work around: You can open the Gutenberg post via Classic Editor to access the checkbox and link portion of the post, to get your public preview link, just don’t edit anything else…
Yes, it becomes a little cumbersome if you published multiple posts a day…. it does work for me on various sites:-)
A few months back I saw a mockup by Dominik @ocean90 so it might only be for a little while
