WordPress 5.0 features

  1. tomakali

    1. Dotnet onecore support [a dotnet developer should be able to contribute plugins for wordpress]

2.app publish [ an opernsource app client for wordpress websites W10 UWP app, iPAD app, Android tab app ] mobile apps can be later

    3.Pushnotification as a builtin feature

4.Speech to Text framework beta to test inputs from speech [siri, cortana, googlenow]

    5.most importantly: Unique Content Identifier
to show some alert on whether any duplicate contents are already available for the newly published articles.

because there are many wordpress websites being sold with content there should be a way to flag a wordpress website as "% of unique content and % of Duplicate content" it will push webmasters to create original content as much as possible

    1. "Dotnet onecore support"

More information needed. Anyone can submit a plugin or develop one, so what's so special that .net can't? Unless you're saying "We need to support .net in a PHP/JS system" which... no.

    2. There's already a WordPress app for desktop and mobile.

    3. PushNotification is best as a plugin. Not everyone needs it.

    4. That's a feature of the apps, not a web client as I understand it. We're working on accessibility, though, so hopefully "Siri, post to my blog..." will be a feature of the iOS app :D

    5. "Unique Content Identifier" - Plugin territory :)

Would you add thumbnails for terms and ability to sort in the core, please? Why not?
Please, let me know, when the version 5.0 of WP will be released?

Mike, icons for terms would be plugin territory. Many have done it.

V 5.0 will probably be next year. We're working on 4.7 now.

I understand. Plugins are available for many things. But why install a separate plugin for such a small functionality. It's very useful and common functionality. Ok, this is my opinion.

Because that's how we do things.

You cannot put everything into core, without it being huge and unweildy and difficult to maintain as a cms.

Install a plugin because WordPress is extendable and allows for plugins to add on features that 80% of the users won't use or need.

5.0 WordPress should lightening its size,
    Fully support PHP 7
Completely remove deprecated anda backward compatibility for older PHP versions
    Composer package friendly

    just my opinion

WordPress fully supports PHP 7 and 7.1 now.

It's unlikely it will drop support for older versions of PHP though.

Vitor, you can already use Markdown in the editor.

The 5.0 dev cycle has begun, and it will be editor centric: https://make.wordpress.org/core/5-0/

    As such I'm closing this.
