In reply to: how to make navigation like this?fortunately for you, i’ve implemented the very same menu technique and happen to have the tutorial to go along with it. as far as placement thereof, the above comments are bang-on …for creating the actual menu however, go here: http://www.simplebits.com/bits/minitab_shapes.html

In reply to: CSS newbie…good books? Where to start?i HIGHLY recommend Oreilly’s line of books for ANY technical resource. I have used their CSS books and XML … all very informational, easy to read, and a great reference.
CSS specifically can be found here: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/css2/index.html
or most any bookstore of your choosing. (psssst, they also make books about PHP and databases such as MySQL)
as podz mentioned, there are a great number of sites that teach about css, not to mention the invaluable method of viewing other web designer’s code. do a google search and you will most certainly find what you need.

In reply to: My new blog made with WordPressyou dont validate the php …you validate the html that the php creates.
just type the uri of your website into the validator and let it do its thing. (by the way … looks like it validates now)

In reply to: adding mine to the listwhile i liked the layout of my old design, i just wasnt sold on colors/patterns/etc. soooo … i messed with it some more … and then again … and NOW i think i’ve found something i can settle on for a while.
i’m still working on ideas for the posts and menu backgrounds … though they grey is a nice temp. i welcome your thoughts, especially from those that have seen the older design.

In reply to: Are There Actually ANY XHTML Compliant Blogs?back in the day valid markup wasnt all that important ..because what worked in one browser didnt in the other (the browser war era) … and so it was futile to try and validate … you either alienated one set of browser users or spent endless hours providing workarounds to the valid code ..negating the whole point.
but now browsers from all creators are becoming more and more compliant. so it IS important and just plain smart, to try and have valid code. You can then rest assured that your site will look pretty much the same across all platforms and it shows you care about your ENTIRE site …not just how long your link list is.
i dont have 30+ posts and a long list of comments … but i validate now, and i plan to when i DO actually have that many. I don’t add a single piece of code without validating it immediately afterward and working through any bugs … simply because its too much of a hassle to do it 6 months later. … sorta like checking/changing your oil BEFORE the light comes on ; )Forum: Fixing WordPress
