In reply to: [OceanWP] Change which images are used for category-pagesI’ve finally worked out an answer to my original question. “Change which images are used for category pages” or to put it better…”Can I have different images used in category pages then those used in product pages?”
The answer is Yes. Just create a Custom Field called category_product_image in the product page of each product and make it’s Value the link to the image you want to use.
Thanks for all the discussion.Hello cavalierlife,
Thanks for the reply but my issue isn’t about changes not being updated. I can probably best explain the issue with screenshots so here are a few:-
This is what a particular page looks like on my iphone…
https://lekite.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ssActual-phone.jpg
however, this is what shows in elementor Responsive Mode…
https://lekite.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ssResponsive-Mode.jpg
and the page has never looked anything like that.
Now, this in itself is not really an issue. If the worst I have to do today is look at my phone to see what a page looks like, then life is pretty good.
However I’m trying to solve this as part of a bigger issue. At the risk of (rightly) being told to open a new post I’ll briefly explain…
Images are stretched (elongated) as soon as I go to Portrait orientation with my phone.
Here is an image on my iphone in Landscape…
https://lekite.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ssLandscape.jpg
the kite shown is correctly proportioned.
However, as soon as I go to Portrait, this happens…
https://lekite.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ssPortrait.jpg
the image stretches top to bottom.
This is what I’m trying to solve so getting Elementor to match what actually happens is a step along the way.
Thanks
ChrisHello, Thanks for the answer.
I’d read on forums that if you switched from Elementor to WP then back again you lost all of the formatting but I’ll test that and hope your good news is still current 🙂Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Back to WordPress editor vs Edit with ElementorHi Arvind,
Thanks for the answer.
I only recognised this issue when I started using YoastSEO.
When I open with Elementor, I can see all content but no YoastSEO.
But when I open with WP editor, I can see YoastSEO and what it wants me to change but no content to do it to…Catch 22!
Can you suggest a way to work around this problem?
Thanks
ChrisHello,
Yoast is ver 11.5, WP is 5.2.2. Theme and all plug ins are up to date.I can get my screen to look like yours also.
https://www.dropbox.com/preview/Public/yoast-screenshot-1.png?role=personal
but, as you can see, there is no content showing to edit.If I click on ‘Edit with Elementor’, I can see all content but no Yoast.
https://www.dropbox.com/preview/Public/yoast-screenshot-2.png?role=personalAs I stated in my original question, I seem to be stuck between seeing my content but not knowing what Yoast wants me to do to it or seeing what Yoast recommends I do but having no content to do it to.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Change which images are used for category-pagesThanks for the hint on screenshot. I’ll try it.
About Regenate thumbnail… I understood that Woocommerce now does this automatically?
On https://woocommerce.wordpress.com/2017/12/11/wc-3-3-image-size-improvements/
it has the following article:-
Automatic Thumbnail ResizingApart from the new theme support and cropping settings, we have also introduced automatic thumbnail resizing. In the past when you changed a product image WordPress would not actually resize the image and you had to install a plugin like Regenerate Thumbnails in order to have WordPress resize the images for you. In WooCommerce 3.3 we have now added on-the-fly thumbnail resizing as well as background thumbnail resizing.
Are we talking about the same thing?

In reply to: [OceanWP] Change which images are used for category-pagesAlso, in your first reply you said to me to “Go to Dashboard > Products > Category and add an image for a category.”
I have done this and all it did was to put an image into the list of categories (I have a screenshot of this but I do not know how to attach a screenshot to this post)
Have I missed something here? Thanks againForum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [OceanWP] Change which images are used for category-pagesAmit,
I have followed the instructions to set image size at Appearance > Customize > Woocommerce > Product Images. I have tried setting Thumbnail width to many options between 100 and 600 9the default is set to 300) and it made no difference. I have tried all 3 options for Thumbnail cropping and it also makes no difference. See screenshot at
You will see that all images are stretched upwards.
This makes sense to me because the image in Products is 600 x 500
but the image I want to appear in category pages only has a box of 275 x 320 to fit into. One is a 6:5 ratio and the other is 275:320 ratio.
Even if the image is cropped or edited, the ratio will still be reversed so it stands to reason that it will we stretched.
The only solution I can see is to use a different image for the category page, NOT the one it gets from the Product page. I have to find a way to get the program look somewhere else for the image it uses, not get it from the Product page. Thanksa quick followup…
I’ve just gone to Products and, because they have never been (can’t be) edited with Elementor, i can both see the content I created and also see the Yoast elements.
Therefore can I assume this is some sort of conflict between Yoast and Elementor that stops me using Yoast on Elementor-made pages? ThanksForum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [OceanWP] Change which images are used for category-pagesHi Amit,
I must be missing something. When I try to go to go to Appearance > Customize > Product Images as per your instructions, I cannot see any ‘Product Images’ under Customize? Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks ChrisForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Help to make responsive headingsHello,
This is exactly how I would have done it in the old days with Dreamweaver so I’ll give it a shot. I’m not sure how or where to see and edit CSS in WP, all I can see is visual WYSISYG so that will be tonights investigation. ThanksForum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [OceanWP] remove ‘product-category’ from breadcrumb trailHi Amit, I think I’ll get the SEO plugin because it looks like it will give me more options and more control. I guess I will need it anyhow for SEO so I might as well get it now and use the other features while I am still building. Thanks

In reply to: How to size imagesI do all my image editing in Photoshop so that’s no problem. But what size and what ratio? Do I need to make them all 275 x 320 (the size the developer made the box) or do I make them square? An what do I do with the image settings in dashboard? Do I go Custom size? If so, do I make the size 275 x 320 or 390 x 390? While I know the answer to these questions might seem obvious, I want to make sure I get all settings correct to eliminate the high-stretched images I’m getting on desktops and the wide-stretched images I’m getting on mobile screens. Thanks

In reply to: Product Data Tabs on Single Product page template editThanks, I’ve moved my question across there.
But this brings me to a follow up question.
Is there somewhere you can point me to that give me an understanding of which ‘parts’ belong to which app/program/part of wordpress?
I use WordPress, Elementor, OceapWP and Woocommerce and it would be good to know which part or section of the web building process belongs to which of these.
Thanks
