In reply to: understanding templatesGreat…thanks for the link. I won’t pretend to understand or remember the hierarchy but I’ve saved the link to use as a reference. Thanks again.

In reply to: permalinks pointing to 404 pageThink I just found the problem. The / was missing from in front of the bad links. Once I added that, the few I’ve tested seem to be working fine.
Strange that it wasn’t showing up in the cod line though.
Still, all’s well that ends well.
I did change the permalink settings to Post name to plain then back again but not sure if that fixed it or adding the / did the job.

In reply to: permalinks pointing to 404 pageOk, I’ll give it a try. Thanks

In reply to: permalinks pointing to 404 pageAfter some playing, I can work around it by copying the url from a successful button into the incorrect button and editing the last word (e.g. rainbow-delta to dinosaur) and it works fine.
This doesn’t solve the mystery of how a different url shows up in the address bar compared to what’s showing in the Edit box and the code of the page.
Any ideas?

In reply to: understanding templatesok, got it.
but is there a WP equivalent of DW templates?
i.e. I want a page that I can use with a fixed layout/format that I can simply add different content to therefore showing the images and specifications and reproduce it for many different items.

Thanks for all of the detailed explanations everyone.

In reply to: XAMPP does not start from c:\xamppThanks Joy, I’ll follow that through.
I’ve since realized that I posted this in the wrong forum as there is one specifically for Local Hosts so I’ve just re-posted it there.
I’ve also downloaded a program (I think it’s a program) called Local by Flywheel that seems to be a much easier way of achieving the same result. enjoy…
