Future releases of the WordPress plugin should have their tags – that was just due to my own ignorance 🙂

2.82 has just been released and it includes an option to not render the Disqus javascript in external files. If you’re having issues with Disqus appearing, just toggle that off and Disqus will render in the markup like it used to.

In reply to: [Disqus Comment System] Disqus no longer working on mobile theme after 2.80It won’t affect anything – when it “Upgrades” the database, it’s adding a field to your WordPress posts that contains the associated Disqus thread ID. This is used to make syncing easier.

We’re working on an option to render the Disqus javascript the old way, which should fix these kinds of cases.
Until then I’d recommend installing an older version of the plugin, probably 2.77: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/disqus-comment-system.2.77.zip
