don’t show underline on links. ok for rollover. color callout seems enough. simplify

Also, viewer can get “sort of” an idea of focus of site. Might help to spell out purpose of site, a tagline, something for search engines to grasp on to as well as casual surfer looking for areas of interest. If this info is in your site, I missed it sorry.
The related topics = is this a plugin, or came with theme, or you customized yourself.
Regarding dateblock, since site is so clean one starts looking for distractions. I teach typography and like small but find the dateblock a non-issue. Maybe it comes down to article title editing: an art in itself!

I looked at my three aforementioned wanna-register and note all are from aol. uh oh, msn, hotmail, aol = 70% of the non-commercial universe! hope this is just a coincidence. i don’t have user experience with boutique domains yet. something to do in the next few days.

In reply to: Registration – waiting for passwordYes, I am feeling your pain for sure. If this is prevalent, wonder why so few are experiencing this phenom as not many have commented on this thread.
That said, how can we improve the registration experience. Aside from the WP page not looking that good, it does not offer options to include custom text editing. On the page could be guidelines for password problems. Or space to write up compelling reasons to register. A great many sites do have really nice registration pages.
Can the existing WP registration page be replaced with a “page” that we can layout? Is this a WP function or something the theme designer has more control of? just realizing how easy it is to format “pages” with html and not having to touch style.css. on the surface a nice looking/functional registration page option seems easy but don’t know where to look on this one.

presently i am performing user testing on a blog. i have three people i know trying to register. they are not getting their passwords. they are in their 50s, marketing executives, are not technical, but they are on amazon, ebay, youtube, flickr, and netflicks quite a bit. they have no wordpress experience. i am a creative director with 30-plus years of experience. registering for these folks should not be so daunting.
on this particular blog there is register/password advice in the blog’s FAQ =
Question: I registered. How long does it take to get a password?
Answer: Less than one minute. It will arrive via the email address you used when you registered. If your password does not arrive check your bulk spam folder. Also do a search. Look for an email from wordpress@mydomaine.com. If you feel that you did not get a password use our Contact link and notify us.registering, providing comments and new content should be “cake” as in piece of cake.
if this area of the forum is not the best place to discuss improving the register process, or give me guidance, please let me know. has anyone else experienced registration issues?

In reply to: Registration – waiting for passwordwhile waiting i’ve concluded the following in the short term = every visitor must register/login to comment, post, etc. and the default for these users = author. i don’t like this choice and may assemble a team of editors to monitor things 24×7. i am not for censored sites but well moderated sites are appreciated.
note: a minor tweak to wordpress/a plugin would make my site concept quite simple.
1) have two options for authors a) new author’s posts go to a moderator just like comments b) author’s in good standing can post with same rules currently in place
or
2) a) give contributors authority to post but go to moderation just like comments b) authors same rules currently in place.
i am going to propose this for next update…
also experimenting with two plugins 1) TDO mini-forms 2) role manager
any insight on this?

right now anyone can comment on my site. to comment you have to leave your email address. (maybe no email should be required here, see below)
so, on monday jane makes a comment and leaves her email address as required by wordpress. on wednesday jane decides to register and must submit her email address to do so. wordpress refuses because there is an email address of jane already in the database.

in summary currently,
1) if someone makes a comment and later decides to register, they can’t because their email address is already in the database. what to do?
2) if someone (typically a stranger) does register, they come in as a contributor since i don’t want them to have freedom of a author. once a poster has proven themselves, they get all the privledges of an author. and of course i am getting people registering and trying to post and i only get an email that they registered. i don’t know that they also want to post. thoughts?
i don’t think a plugin/wdiget is out there. this seems like a custom setup. right?

1b) note: in my META section there are RSS feeds for “entries” and “comments” = what is the difference?

i might have to write concise submissions instructions somewhere else? FAQ’s, etc. anyway, thanks so much so far! writing this all out organizes ones thoughts and maybe someone on our forum can point me to something as this seems like a pretty typical feature. again, thanks!
