In reply to: Youtube-brackets pluginwhile you are waiting for an answer, youtube is pretty easy. there is an embed code feature right on their viewing screen. i keep this code on hand and substitute the url. you can also dial in the size.
i just paste this in the “code mode” when writing the post.

talk about working backwards. i have about two years of content and just put this up a few days ago because i did not know how to put it together. this is a start but i can’t solve the “archives” problem. since this site is so visual the archives need to be visual (the thumbnails would be enough) and it would help if the archives could be organized by date, category, maybe even tags. anyone have any ideas?

it is a css styling fix. a hack may be needed or maybe just correct coding. one thing for sure. if it works in FF it usually won’t in IE and vice versa.
i design for FF and Safari and get a pro coder to fix the IE when i can’t figure it out. it’s always the css.

In reply to: FireFox issue: Keeps asking for login.my problem is intermittent now. i can mostly get in ( 90% ) and when i can’t i go to safari for a short period of time.
IE is ONLY used when i am building something to test it. 😉
when i do have problems i clear the cache, cookies, etc. but no clear direction or insight to give anyone. i also now have three user names to get in, each with a different role and logging out of one and then into another works.

In reply to: Incoming links question on dashboardthanks moshu. so you feel that the admin function is “responding” to technorati. that would make sense since there are still some areas that have my old url in technorati which i remind them to revisit and finish this issue…
you feel that this issue is not fixed in tweaking a file or preferences in admin.

So it appears the bots do in fact see two different urls. I don’t know if in the big scheme of things this makes a “big” difference.
If one was to stick to one url any thoughts on what is best practice =
1) domain.com

In reply to: Google sitemap and 404 errorsone other thing. i found a tool that shows stats on indexing etc. according to this tool, no one is indexed by google. not even google/blog. here is the tool. is this a faulty tool?
if this tool is right it means google indexing, validation, technorati really does not determine how successful a site is regarding activity. dial in any url and see for yourself. there is no pattern that i can see of on this tool. the tool = http://mich.in/tools/xinu/ (i found it via research, not per a recommendation)

internal urls = i am trying to move as much as i can. the only way i can tell is if a link = 404 = right? btw, i am not getting header 301’s. did i misunderstand you?
i did find an old reliable link on google images and it threw up the totally wrong image and when i clicked on the blog url link i only get the very latest page/post, not the respective page the search was requesting.
is this a permalink thing? what a mess?!

1) the blog url changed
2) the links name(s) changed
3) there’s a good chance i have broken links
4) all the “hits” i had before with “tag” paths are gonethis is an interestng google sitemap opinion = http://support.blog-city.com/hits_explained2.htm
i am just thinking out loud if the forum does not mind while possibly other input can come in. it is just a pain to build up content and links and then the rank goes away.

In reply to: Write/compose modei have gone through the process of deactivating most but not all plugins. i did deactivate simple forum, simple tagging, simple tag-cloud widget. i will try and do the rest when in the mood 😉
still get 404 when in tag-admin mode though they work ok on site.

In reply to: Tags = 404the resolution to this was the realization that all my “pages” were converted to “posts” so i lost only a small amount of content but made new pages and deleted posts.
i did lose a lot of google rank in the process. more on this in a “new topic”
here is a big lesson learn. backup, backup, backup. make sure your isp is backed up. even if you pay a premium for the isp to backup, make sure everything is working. also, learn how to backup configure your cpanel, etc. and backup db and put on your hard drive too.
