    Hello,

Adding tabs to profiles is possible with filters. You can look into this: https://gitlab.com/PeepSo/Public/HelloWorld it’s a hello-world plugin that showcases how things connect in PeepSo.

    Hi,

Thanks for contacting us about this. We’ll try to add integration / support for it in PeepSo 2.1.1. However, if something more important comes up, we’ll have to bump it to one of the later versions.

One of our developers already looked into it. We’ll see what can be done and how fast. Can’t make any 100% promised deadlines, though.

    Hello @gregthebuzz,

Thank you for your interest in PeepSo and for contacting us about this. Let’s take it all step by step so we’re on the same page.

Hi folks at Peepso – first well done !!! It is about time WP got a new breath of life in social networking side and from my initial tests with the free version – it seems awesome.

    — Thank you. We are working very hard to make it awesome.

A dilemma for me arises with this discovery… I have been involved with BuddyPress site development, custom plugin work and themes for mmmm since about 2009… and have invested an incredible amount of time on integrating BP / WP and third party plugins to make BP work for many of my clients….

    — That’s the main problem, isn’t it though? Trying to piece together something from various 3rd party developers, who with all due respect are doing their best, but you still end up having to stitch everything together yourself.

The plus side of BP has always been yip its free, and 80% of third party plugins for BP were free… the down side of BP has always been that many of these plugins were abandoned YET their functionality required, and paid solutions had to be found to upgrade old code to retain functionality. Newish plugins like Youzer brought some MUCH NEEDED breaths of fresh air into what essentially has become a very slowed down BP dev environment

    — That’s another issue with FREE software. Free software is amazing, hell, we’re using a lot of them. But there’s no such thing as really FREE, is there? The reason plugins get abandoned is the same as always. Their creators get very little or nothing in return for their work and they have to look for ways to monetize their time.

Not to mention, again with all due respect to the people behind the software, and I have a feeling you know something about this… If you setup a site with a specific version of BuddyPress, then let’s say you get 20 plugins for it, at best it’s going to be just from 5 different developers… Some get abandoned, some don’t. Some you can’t update, some you can. Abandoned ones won’t work with latest version of BuddyPress, the one’s you can update bring new functionality only from a certain BuddyPress version and with that you’re stuck at a given BuddyPress version in a limbo because you don’t want to lose some features of the abandoned / unsupported plugins.

That comes with more potential issues. With PHP 5.6 pretty much being dead and unsupported, many plugins, and definitely the abandoned ones, are not compatible with PHP 7.X and that’s a totally new and big issue on its own.

I like what i see in Peepso – YES i will be sincere – the price is warranted BUT also scares me for if i have to migrate all my BP sites to Peepso it is going to be an expensive exercise.

    — Consider this… All of the necessary functionality (of course it depends on who defines necessary), is created by us. Comes from us. We’re constantly adding new functionality and we will also release huge update around the middle of January that’s going to be a game changer. We not only develop and support (I’ll get to this in a bit) our software, but we also are very serious about testing. We’re always trying to be ahead of the curve. We were WP 5.0 ready before it came out as stable version, same with latest PHP 7.3.

We’ve got a developer on staff who’s sole job and responsibility is to test PeepSo and create test cases with selenium webdriver. We also have a dedicated server to run those tests. Right now we’re talking about 25,000 test cases or so, I’ll gladly confirm the actual number, if you’d like too. Those tests are designed to check everything we could think of:
    – confirm user can login
    – confirm user can change avatar using common picture formats: png, jpg etc.
    – user can’t upload avatar using unsupported file formats: pdf, exe etc.

Let’s say there’s a bug. Well, it happens, we’re all human, that bug gets reported. Fixed. Tested. Reviewed by another dev. Tested by the automation developer. Automated test is created and added to our suite as to ensure it doesn’t happen ever again.

We run automated testing pretty much on a loop and latest development code to make sure nothing broke when adding new functionality. We also run it one more time before release on a frozen code. To add to our ‘paranoia’, we install that version on our own website for a day or two before a release to test it on ourselves one last time before it goes out to the public.

Now… Tell me another WordPress based product / company that does this 🙂

What i DO like is the FB like way it works, yes BP can do the same with eg RT THemes Inspirebook or BuddyBoss etc… BUT i HAVE found that no matter what, users are familiar (which i hate) with FB and want a similar experience, BP could be made to work the same, but it requires many plugins and many css and code changes which in its own is long term not too sustainable.

    — So… It’s a simple matter of math and value. Let’s say you have to spend 100hours to make everything look and feel the way PeepSo and its plugins do it out of the box (perhaps even with our Gecko theme on top). Calculate the following:
    1. How much you ‘save’ or ‘earn’ per hour just stitching it all together to make it work.
    2. How much you have to spend anyway on those 3rd party solutions at various developers.
    3. Add it all together, is it really worth more than what we offer with the PeepSo Ultimate Bundle and Gecko Theme together just out of the box?

What also for me, sincerely again and with utmost respect, hindering is the lifespan of Peepso… how do I know it will be still around in 5 years? the lack of free third party plugins also worries me as it is not how WP and BP were founded… many of us have spent small fortunes on Codecanyon and other plugins to get our clients what they need, and if we go the Peepso way, it means spending a lot of cash again…

    — Well, we’re around for about 3.5 years now and it’s just getting bigger and better. We’re even sponsoring the upcoming WordCamp Jakarta 2019, our cofounder Matt will be a speaker, most of our team will be there too. Eric – our other cofounder – spoke at WordCamp Kuala Lumpur 2017, we’re waiting to know whether he’s also going to be accepted as a speaker at WC Jakarta 2019. We’re doing well.

The next half a year will bring us a brand new architecture, we’re focusing on under the hood things like making a new notifications engine platform agnostic, so that there’s an easy way to implement mobile push notifications or any notifications for that matter. We’ll be doing REST API… well, everything REST API that we can think of and that’s just a few of the things we’ve got planned. We have, and I’m not joking, over 5 years worth of development plans.

What is the pace of user requirement development…e.g. few of my clients want to be able to have FB style phototagging in photos/albums… which we can do in BuddyPress modded, are we going to have to pay for every plugin that integrates with Peepso?

    — We don’t have photo tagging yet, it’s on our list. There are a few ways to go about it, though. You can either have it custom-coded yourself, with 3rd party devs, or sponsor that feature with us, meaning: pay us to code it within our code base. That way, you don’t need to worry about 3rd party compatibility. You pay once, we make sure the code is maintained, supported and developed further.

Even high demand integrations e.g WooCommerce and say MyCred is being charged for…. This could end up very expensive… I understand the principle of charging yes I do, but getting a WALL only free version without such basic functionality as Friends, Groups etc (like you get in BP) is in my mind not enough to swing BP users or BP site owners over to Peepso without having to fork out big cash

    — With the PeepSo Ultimate Bundle you get it all at a fraction of the cost. I did also mention the next big thing that’ll come mid-January (can’t really talk about it yet). What you also need to consider is this. BuddyPress might come with friend connections and groups ootb. But it doesn’t have advanced security features, customization options and a ton of other things that Free PeepSo comes with.

    Anyway… just some thoughts… pondering

    — Totally understandable. Also, linking to external resources is frowned upon here. So if you’d like to get more information on the bundle and others please do contact us via our website. We’ll gladly help.

Just to add. We also provide full technical support. It’s done by the very people who create PeepSo. Sometime around end of January we’ll also introduce a limited weekend support coverage to the people who purchased the Bundle, but that’s yet to be officially announced. With that in mind we’ll be able to have 365 day support coverage.

I trust this does address some of your concerns.

    Hello,

Check if EXIF is installed / activated on the php version you’re actually using. Many times it happens that there are a few php versions available and EXIF can be available on php 5.6 but not on 7.3 etc.

EXIF is used to read… well… exif data from uploaded images, to orient them correctly for example. PeepSo will work fine without it, though.

We don’t usually require server access. Most of the support investigation can be done from the WP level.

    PeepSo Team

    Plugin Author PeepSo, Inc.

    (@peepso)

    Hello,

EXIF is not a must, it’s one of the things that’s recommended. If the information showed that EXIF is not there, it’s not there. You can check it yourself with the use of a plugin like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/system-report-and-phpinfo/ and checking its availability straight in the server config brought up to WordPress level.

We do ask for access to the backend of the site so that our developers can check the problem, fix it if possible and just get it done for you. If you don’t want to provide it, you can always fill the fields in with fake data. Alternatively create a temporary admin account, have all the backups and even install plugins that track users activity so that you can know exactly what was done and have it logged if you want to.

We reply to any and all support questions, but for some of them it’s not possible to inspect without the access data as too much depends on the server setup in some cases. Without it we can play a guessing game. The first and only ticket you opened was handled promptly and you did have a solution quickly. That’s why it’s a bit inconsistent that you haven’t opened another one or at least responded to the existing one.

What we can guarantee is that there’s not a single other product or project out there similar to PeepSo that comes with our level of support and response times. Whether you want to use our support or not is your choice. We’re only here to help.

    PeepSo Team

PS. As you might have noticed we replied to your ticket out of our normal support hours. Right now it’s also Sunday evening here and yet we not only are here to acknowledge your review but also provide some support information.

    Plugin Author PeepSo, Inc.

    (@peepso)

    Hello,

Sorry you feel that way. But let’s tackle this, ok? From what we see in our system, you have opened just one support ticket and this was it:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/85syndpswdtlwsv/Screenshot%202018-12-16%2019.24.42.png?dl=0

This was the maximum extent of your communication with our support. With that in mind let’s see what could’ve been done.

    1. The error was a fatal error because your server configuration did not match the minimum recommended requirements. Which tells us you didn’t really bother to check it before even installing PeepSo.
    2. The ticket was not only addressed but also solved within 1.5h and we never heard back from you again.

    On another note:
The general server setup that you have seems to be SEVERELY outdated and dangerous in the long run. With php 5.6 – which is a bare minimum – we are able to provide a more coherent information on minimum system requirements. If you’re running php 5.5, that was released on: 20th of June 2013 and supported by php themselves until: 10th of July 2016. It’s dangerous and you should update to a php 7.3 which was recently released.

On the features note, we’ve continued adding features to PeepSo for years and we continue to do so. If you feel that these features are not enough in this plugin, sorry to hear that. Within the last years we’ve not only added new features but also released 3 of our plugins for FREE: Moods, Tags and Location. Few months ago we merged them into PeepSo too.

We continue our development and release of free features at a pace that we can sustain. If you’d like to contribute to the project, feel free to contact us about this. If you have any suggestions about it we’re all ears too.

    Have a great day,
    PeepSo Team

PS. You should seriously update your server setup.

    Hello,

If you read it, it states that if you find a problem that we can’t fix, we’ll issue a refund.

    Plugin Author PeepSo, Inc.

    (@peepso)

    Hello,

Thank you for your review, please see our inline comments:

At the end, this “free” plugin feels like a nice looking marketing bait to make you purchase a highly priced bundle justified by few empty value add-ons, just to get what you would expect from a social network plugin.

We couldn’t disagree more here. Deceptive is not the word that should be used here. We’d be deceptive if we were hiding something or lying to you or other people about what PeepSo is and what it can do.

Let’s start with the fact that there are a lot of plugins in the WordPress ecosystem that come with MVP features and later they can be expanded with paid plugins. Nobody is forcing anyone to purchase anything either. PeepSo is open-source. If you’d like, you can find addons for it from other developers or have them created by yourself.

Even if you look at BuddyPress, it doesn’t have live notifications, doesn’t come with basic customization options like avatar shapes, color themes, performance settings, security settings and many more. No 2 plugins are the same.

Coming back to the paid addons, what we really don’t understand is the level of surprise here. We’re very open about that and features in PeepSo. The list of addons is in the description of the plugin here on WordPress plugins directory.

The integration with WP theme doesnt look very “integrated” and seems to be more oriented for their own theme, yet another purchase.

If you have a problem with any theme, you can contact us and our developers will help out. Which we also say in the plugins description here. With hundreds of thousands of themes out there it’s not easy to make PeepSo 100% compatible with all of them. Our own theme was released just recently and that’s thanks to our own community which not only asked us to do one, they nearly demanded us to get one done. The theme is built with PeepSo-first focus. With 3rd party themes we can only do so much, with our own we can take PeepSo and the entire site to the new level so that the community experience is seamless. Video was created to show how to get started from the first screen of a WordPress installation through installing PeepSo, its plugins, Gecko theme and the basic setup. You can see it here.

That seamless experience already can be achieved with themes like Divi, there’s even a video on how to get it setup within minutes. You can see the video here.

At the end I feel stuck between a not very usable plugin and a not refundable highly priced bundle.

PeepSo in its free form can be usable. It seems it’s not usable for you and you just don’t want to pay for the addons that would make it good for the setup you have in your mind. Plugins can be purchased separately or in the discounted bundle. We offer separate purchases because we understand that no one site is the same, not every site needs everything so there’s no need to pay for things you don’t want to use.

When it comes to refunds, we do offer refunds within 14 days from purchase and you can read the terms here.

Support has been genuine and answered my pre-sales questions in a constructive way.

Thank you. We’re very open about everything and take our time to answer any and all questions. We feel like that statement you just wrote and all of what we wrote above proves that we’re not being deceptive. We’re not hiding anything, we’re not giving you false information. Our support answered all of your questions within hours tops.
