Nerdboy – you remind of those guys that pirate movies then to bitch about the quality. If it don’t work for you go see another movie – preferably at the cinema where you have to pay.
Had a last roll of the dice and I finally got one install working – but ONLY if I followed this:
– fresh install of WP (latest ver using default theme)
– uploaded the original ver 1.4.3 NGG plugin, and didn;t update it straight away (added no other plugins at this point)
– wordpress > settings > permalinks > custom URL structure > /%postname%/
– updated NGG
– all Green ticksBizarre but anyway it works (for me anyway) – if I can recreate it, on another install, then I got a blueprint 🙂
Now to install the Theme :0
Nope – deleted the hosting a/c. Fresh install of everything. Plugin health check failed. Once that happens on a domain, I can NEVER get it to work again and have to revert to ver 1.4.
Yet on another domain I setup recently, it worked (same server, same everything) – our PHP was updated recently – so I just went into that site that was working, ran the plugin health check, and it passed – all green ticks.
Once you get this “plugin health check fail GREMLIM” on your wordpress installation, it seems as though there’s no going back – I can’;t for the life of me solve it and I’ve tried SOOOO many combos with no success.
Maybe it’s the exact sequence of how you set it up? i.e. maybe one has to install another plugin, add a gallery, then upgrade the PHP memory limit, or something like that – maybe it can’t be a full moon? But man oh man, I’m at a loss with this one.
I shudder to think what I’m gonna do with the dozen or so sites I got running this on the old version of 1.4 – I’m relunctant at this stage to take on any more clients who need photo galleries when *seemingly” the only decent gallery out there NGG, can be so problematic.
Comes with website building I suppose doesn;t it? The boys at DIYThemes advised me to avoid using plugins whereever possible and now I’m starting to learn what they mean.
Ok back to square one – after one successful installation (where I spoke to soon and said I was an idiot) – got 2 more on different domains (same host) that don;t work: both have:
– clean installs of WP – latest ver 3.1.2
– latest ver of NGG 1.7.4
– Standard WP theme (2010)
– PHP 5.2.17Plugin health check failed – even though the only plugin I added was NGG.
Man, have spent some time with this plugin – it’s just so flakey. Looks like I’m back to ver 1.4 🙁 only thing that works consistently.
I’ll try deleting the hosting a/c’s (reinstalling WP and the plugin seems to never work once you get the “plugin failed red x check of death – reminds me of windows blue screen back in teh day) and give it one more shot. Maybe not upgrading the PHP mem limit from 64 – 128 prior may help? dunno grasping at straws.
Reporting Back: Alex – it would appear that I’m an idiot! I’ve just run a fresh install, with new domain, everything up-to-date (including WP and Thesis) PLUS added a variety of plugins – and it works like a charm. In fact at this stage, I can;t break it – and I’m good at breaking stuff 😉
Sorry mate – I gave you un-necessary flack 😉
I’ll go back, and try and update all the problem sites with the latest versions and see how I go.
PS – to be honest whilst a bit embarrassed, I’m happy as clients love this plugin.
Hi Alex! First let me say I stand corrected – you are still alive!! Ok good to hear! I thought you must have been making millions dev’ing software or something 😉
In all cases no – the plugin health does not work – at first I thought it was Thesis Theme – but re-installed a clean WP install with default 2010 theme and no other plugins besides NGG. (I have tried this many different times) – one thing I haven’t tried is installing WP manually (i.e. we use installatron on your typical cpanel / apache / linux server)
I am buying another domain 2nite to test it once more – everything from scratch and will report back.
ps – running PHP 5.2.12 btw 😉
Same – have multiple sites with the same issue. Probs occurred after 1.7. The ONLY way I could get any sites to work was to go back to NGG ver 1.4.3 🙁
Looks like plugin developer Alex is missing in action from this forum post at least (I haven’t checked the others)
Still waiting for an alternative plugin to NGG – sooner the better 😉
PS – in all fairness it WAS a great plugin – but as another poster mentioned: it’s next to useless the way it is now – whether it’s wordpress of the plugin itself – bottom line is it doesn’t work now.
OR is Alex at some stage available to have a look? (we will pay of course).
Ok seem to be seeing a pattern:
– some older sites that we have already have a few galleries created, seem to work (running 3.05, ngg 1.7.4)
It seems to be on new installs? (confusing)
Dunno if Alex reads this but if you do Alex: are you to take a look? Our clients like this gallery plugin.
PS – we have got ONE configuration to work:
– NGG ver 1.4.3
– WP 3.05That’s with no other plugins and standard theme. Haven’t tried adding other plugins as yet or theme change.
Still can’t get this plugin to work (on multiple installations):
– runnign standard WP theme
– version 1.7.4
– WP: 3.05It’s a nightmare – any suggestions for alternative photo galleries for WP?
Have 20+ sites running nextgen – all working. Until… 1.7.4 – pages > whatever page > add nextgen gallery button > select or enter gallery [script hangs there]
– Tried FF, IE, Safari, Chrome, Opera – same result.
– If you get message: Check plugin/theme conflict – RED crosses anywhere – it won’t work
– Have done: multiple re-installs of wordpress, Cpanel a/c’s (deleted and re-installed – I have reliable, tech-savvy host with many other WP sites running)
– Tried WP 3.1, 3.05, 3.04 – all with varying combinations.
– Tried old JS
– Sites running with Thesis theme (preferred framework) or standard WP theme 2010.
We love this plugin, as do our clients, but it won’t work now. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers, Mark 😉
Arrrgggghhhh Alex you are right! After updating the plugin, I now must go to options and there’s a big “upgrade” link up the top where it upgrades all the tables in the database. Forgot to do that. I must remember to do that after upgrading.
Thanks!
Thanks very much Alex! I didn;t realise all those downloads were available!
ps – very good plugin by the way 😉
Hi Paul – thnx mate – but I never touch any of the template code and I stay away from PHP as much as possible. The site works fine – was simply straight after the new NGG update come out – the JW image rotator slideshow doesn’t work. The NGG gallery still works however.
