  • This thread is a little off-topic.
    Looks like spam.

ps. Where’s the “report post” button?

Gengo has a list translations feature that allows you to list the other languages belw each post.

Please report your problems here: http://jamietalbot.com/wp-hacks/forum/

It only translates the category name if there are posts written in the translated language in that category.

If you are viewing you site in language A, and then there is a post in language B but bot in A in category C, then category C is shown in language B, not A (like the rest of the site). It should be hidden. Well it isn’t –> confusion.

Write at least one post in each language in each category and the trouble should be gone.

    I have reported this bug.

Also note that the “this is a translation of page/post…” might have trouble with the “next X” button.

And the snippet translation feature fully works. You only cannot see the snippet contents in the admin panel. Some sort of display bug. Hold on. They sure can be solved (these all worked in a previous version).

    Up.

    I have the same problem.

Yes, widget titles are localized – until you edit them in the admin panel. If you want a custom title, then that is no longer localized.

I want to rename “Categories” to “Posts”, or maybe something else.

My WordPress installation serves static pages and the blog is only used as an information channel for upcoming events. Hence, “categories” does not really mean anything to the reader. Posts/Announcements/Events/… means.

Try changing nl_NL –> nl in wp-config and language file name.

That worked for me (WordPress 2.5.1, another plugin)

    Oh, sorry. I wasn’t clear enough…

I meant all the widgets in general: The pages, categories, archives, blogroll, meta, text widgets, Wp-polls widget, Event Calendar 3 widgets, all of these.

When I customize the name of a widget, then its new name is fixed and thus in one language only.

If I choose finnish titles for the sidebar widgets, then no english speaking will understand them. If I choose english names, then the site looks really ugly as it comprises two languages in some mixture. And then I need to throw swedish in, too…

Making a multilingual site really means translating the whole user interface…

Hence I am looking for some place in WordPress itself to do this.

    I allready tried to use gengo_snippet(‘$title’); in the description, but the result is: gengo_snippet(\\\’$title\\\’);

ps. Should I just hack include/wp-widgets.php to remove that escaping?

The alternative – http://wpcal.firetree.net/ – already does that. It can display both several calendars and an upcoming events list in the sidebar. Very nice. It uses posts in a specific category as its base (and this is where category axcluder plugins are needed). EC3 lacks location info, though. If you need these ofptions *now* then you should take a look at ec3. It might have minor incompatibilities with 2.5.1 but there is an unofficial patch (I installed it and it works great).

I am very interested about the possible new functionality that this Events Calendar could provide as compared to Event Calendar 3. But I cannot switch before I get two month calendars plus an event list.

I have found a way to modify the privatePlus plugin to partially work on wp 2.5.1. By removing a little code it can be made to allow logged in users (of all levels) to read private posts and pages. But I do not know how to change the plugin to make it work with wp_list_pages on wp 2.5.1 I do not have the time required to dig deeper into the wp code.

Now I can access private pages by direct URL but they still don’t show up in the page list. My partial solution is awaiting approval as a comment.

There’s also some promise of further development.

The Disclose Secret plugin is superior, of course. I am keeping an eye on its blog do discover new versions, would there some day be one.

    I’m optimistic.

As nobody seems to have any better options, I will rely on these two solutionsand consider this question resolved.

    – A plugin is a collection of files that either change the way WordPress functions, or adds/removes functionality.

Plugins are written (mostly) in the PHP-language and they are stored in wp-content/plugins directory. These plugins can be activated or deactivated through the WordPress admin panel by the blog admin.

    – Widgets are placeholders or user interface elements that present data or an user interface to the user.

Sidebar widgets can be reordered, renamed, enabled or disabled to change the looks, feel and contents of the user interface. Some plugins present their own user interface as a sidebar widget. Sometimes plugins provide optional widgets (such as polls widget of wp-polls, or the language chooser widget of the Gengo plugin). Sometimes plugins have no widgets.

    It is excellent

    You
    1) install and enable it as usual
    2) create an empty page with any name and sf-forum slug
    3) configure the plugin (page, permalinks on 1st and last tab etc)
    4) create a forum group and forums. Remember to choose access groups first if you want guest=no access, logged in=std access and so on)
    5) start using it.

You might want to create a page template without a sidebar, so that you would have more space for a forum. You can run this forum beside a sidebar if you wish, though.

If you are running a multilingual blog (with Gengo) then Gengo must have auto-append language code = off or else there will be url trouble with this forum.

Is this supposed to work on WordPress 2.5.1?

Private plus might just be the solution.

This plugin does not work either (guessed it?), but the author wrote something about fixing it after 5th may, and this plugin is rather simple as compared to Disclose secret. There is hope thus.

I found the correct polaroid plugin and i works now, but the original problem is still unresolved.
