In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] PDF no longer displayingHello,
Sorry for the trouble you’re having. I wasn’t able to reproduce any problem using Chrome, so I suspect that is just a browser cache or cookie related issue. See the Notes page for help on this:
http://www.davistribe.org/gde/notes/#browser
Also there is a known compatibility issue between IE11 (which I believe comes with Windows 8.1 and is available for Windows 7) and Google Viewer.

There is a possible workaround for this also explained on that page.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] You've reached the bandwidth limitHello Nadia,
This is a Google generated error, not one native to GDE. You can see this thread for some ideas.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] FORBIDDENThis sort of error is usually caused by a conflict with another plugin. However even if the editor dialog isn’t working for you (which it should) you can still insert documents normally using the media library.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Doesn't work?Hi,
This unfortunate issue is discussed in other threads, but check this one for a possible workaround for your environment. This is a limitation between Google Viewer and IE11 and GDE can’t directly address it, but must wait for a fix like all the other workaday schlubs out there. π

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Animation on pptx file not workingHi there,
The viewer works by rendering your slides as images so no plugin is required. A consequence of this convenience though is that animations are necessarily lost.
Sorry,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Charset problemAgain, I’m sorry, but I don’t have an explanation for this. I double-checked and the frame is UTF-8 which should be correct, and when I use wordpress in Russian it looks correct. I don’t have any more ideas on this at the moment, sorry π

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Charset problemI am sorry, I’m not able to explain this. I changed my WP language to Russian and installed the language files from the most recent version of wordpress (from wordpress.ru) and the dialog had the proper encoding. Not that I could read it π but the characters look correct.
Does this happen in any browser or just one in particular?
Hey Rob,
Because the file type checking by extension is a GDE add-on, you might be able to do this out of the box just by turning off that feature. On the Advanced tab of GDE Settings, uncheck “check for errors before loading viewer”. Then it is up to Google Viewer to determine the file type and whether or not it can render it. I expect this will work in most cases…?

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Similar difficulty with drop boxKudos to you for reading the other support threads. You’re on the right track. I’m not sure if you’re a heavy Google Docs user but you might try logging out of your Google account (or open in a different browser where you’re not logged in). Then if the issue is resolved you may be able to log back in and still have it working properly.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Google Doc Embedder & DropboxGlad you were able to resolve the issue.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Google Doc Embedder & DropboxThere are various ways of obtaining that link depending on your browser, but the technique I used was to go to the original dropbox URL (the one that displayed as HTML in GDE, and had an HTML dropbox header if you visited it directly, such as from the GDE download link). Once there I used Firefox to right-click in the lower part of the screen where the actual document was embedded and chose the menu option to view only that frame. That removed the header, and I could copy the direct file link from the browser address bar. There may be a more straightforward way.
I was able to embed the document normally using GDE with the second link. You may have to turn off “check for errors before loading viewer” in GDE Settings > Advanced tab if you’re getting a file type error, but I didn’t run into that myself.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Google Doc Embedder & DropboxYou’re linking to a dropbox HTML page rather than directly to the file itself. (Note the dropbox frame around the document when you go to the link directly.) You’ll probably have to use the direct download link:

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] PDF hyperlinksmack,
Under normal circumstances yes, but unfortunately this support is broken right now on Google’s end. There is a note at the top of the GDE home page to keep people up to date on this issue.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Can't get File Base URL to prefix File NameKarnac,
That should be working. Do you mind sending a support request via that Support tab in GDE Settings, as well as a shortcode you’ve used to see the problem? This will let me look at your environment settings and hopefully figure out the issue.
In all my local tests the feature is working as expected, so I’ll need some additional info. Thanks.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] PDF not shown on ChromeHello,
Your page works fine for me in Chrome (other than being in German, of course π
Thanks for reading the notes page, however there are other suggestions there besides SSL. I would suggest clearing your browser cache and temporarily logging out of any Google accounts, or using Incognito mode to test further.
