In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE does not work with WP Better Security?I’m assuming the plugin is not active now, since it’s working? Can you activate it so I can see the difference?

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE does not work with WP Better Security? As mentioned I installed the plugin and GDE still worked. You mentioned the error message you’re receiving, but without a link or something to see the actual problem, I’m left to guess.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE does not work with WP Better Security?Hi darko,
I’m not familiar with that plugin, but I did install it and run the basic protection and didn’t run into any difficulties. I did not activate some of the more advanced “security features” because I don’t want to alter my site so fundamentally.
I might be able to be more specific based on your actual usage (enhanced viewer may be more likely to break with some of these settings than the standard viewer, for example) but I would hazard a guess that changing some of the standard folder locations might cause a problem (wp-contents, admin, etc.). However it seems the plugin does a fair job of warning you which settings may break other plugins (the blue coloring of security items).
Hope this helps,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Completely BlankYou’re correct, there is nothing on that page that indicates you’re using the GDE shortcode at all. Even in the case of an error, there would be some kind of indicator.
Either you don’t have GDE installed and activated (which I highly doubt, since you’re posting here) or perhaps there is some other plugin in your environment that is counteracting shortcode functionality. Even if GDE were to completely fail, there would be some reference to that either in the page source as HTML comments or visibly on the page, so I have to surmise it’s being bypassed or inheriting a problem from elsewhere.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Document TitleGDE doesn’t currently keep track of document titles, although you can use the filename in the download link. You would have to put the title text in yourself at the place you want it to appear.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Download link not workingHi there,
While I can’t see your settings, I’m guessing you’ve got some weird combinations going on there. Your download link is pointing toward a private document, but the URL isn’t private. Not sure how you got into that space, but my recommendation would be to remove GDE completely and reinstall it so that you can start off with the default profiles. If you intend to use the private documents feature, use profile 2 in your shortcode.
Once you do this you might find you do not need to turn off error checking any longer, because the underlying issue in locating your documents may have been addressed.
Hope this helps,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE Error: Unable to determine file type from URL ERRORWhat I meant to say is that the restriction mentioned in the FAQ still applies, namely, GDE does not support documents hosted on Google Docs/Google Drive at all, regardless of their format, in the current release version 2.5.x. You will have to host the document on another site in its native format, as suggested, for GDE to work as intended.
Sorry for adding confusion. The next version will allow you to embed properly shared documents from Google Drive (whether in Google Docs format or their native formats) and from Dropbox. But this version has not been released yet.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Does not complete loadingThere are several threads here about IE11 being incompatible and a suggested way to work around the problem until it is addressed by either Google or Microsoft. My earlier post links to one of them, and you can also see the list of known issues on the GDE web site here.
There is no such compatibility issue with Chrome though so if it is truly doing exactly the same thing (hanging on the loading bar) you may have a problem with your document. If it’s misbehaving in some other way, though, most problems are resolved by clearing browser cache and temporarily deleting your Google account cookies, and are local to your computer and probably do not affect many if any site visitors. I would have to see the problem though to be specific.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE bandwidth limit reachedHave you tried logging out of your google account? And if that works, does it still work when you log back in?
The bandwidth error is somewhat arbitrary (as far as I can tell) but seems in some way to be linked to the status of your Google login. It isn’t likely to affect your site visitors, since it’s local to your account.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Does not complete loadingAre you using IE11 by chance?
The document on the page referenced seems to be loading fine on my end.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Problem with ChromeI can’t troubleshoot specific document issues from this example shortcode. GDE is working normally for me in Chrome (and no other problems reported by users of Chrome) so for specific help in this case please use the support form in GDE Settings, and I’ll do my best to help.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Problem with ChromeHello,
There are no known issues with Chrome. The workaround you attempted above is specific to IE11 and would not affect other browsers.
Please look at the plugin Notes for some potential fixes to the problem, or use the support form in GDE Settings and I’ll take a look at your specific document.
Thanks
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE Error: Unable to determine file type from URL ERRORRespectfully, the question of embedding Google Docs files is addressed very directly in the plugin FAQ linked on the right column of this page.
That said, I’ve been working on an update that includes native Google Drive and Dropbox cloud hosting support which is nearing release. At that time your files will embed as you’re trying to do, with the standard sharing link (not with the HTML version you’ve listed above).
Hope this helps.
