In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] working great – then error message“Check for errors before loading viewer” is on the Advanced tab of GDE Settings. This error message seems to crop up with certain combinations of plugins, or when your site is hosted by Hostgator. Wouldn’t be able to give an intelligent guess though without seeing your debug information, so feel free to submit a support request from GDE Settings as well if neither of those ring a bell.
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Bill,
Have you checked the “notes” page? This has common suggestions/answers for these issues. IE’s error about frames normally comes from nonstandard security settings. I can’t explain what may have changed them to cause the error to surface suddenly, though. You’ll find steps to reset your security settings there. Clearing your browser cache is a great step, but most often the empty/missing viewer issue is caused by broken Google account cookies.

Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Download link but no embedded viewerHi Andreas,
Please check the following link for suggestions for this particular problem, and let me know if it persists.

I believe in this case it’s probably due to the size of the document. See the link above for suggested workarounds.
Thanks!

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Hyperlink problem when using shortcode in emailYou may want to look into using the File Base URL setting in your profile(s). If all your URLs start with the same path (or you only have a few, and use profiles that are the same with the users you email) then you only need the relative portion or even just the filename inside the shortcode. Then your email client isn’t likely to create a link out of it.
Another alternative might be to instruct your users to paste the shortcode in the Text editor rather than the Visual editor, depending on how the link is being formed. You may also have a setting in your email client that turns autolinking off.
Not that I don’t want to be helpful if neither of those cases fit your needs, but I don’t really think it fits with GDE otherwise to create a weird version of its shortcode for emailing purposes – that’s a pretty niche problem. But if there is a large public demand for such a feature, let it be stated here. π
Hi aenea,
I can do one better; GDE 2.6 (which I’m still testing) contains a better fix for this that doesn’t require a style edit. If you contact me via the Support tab in GDE Settings and link me to this thread so I know what the issue is, I can email you a private build of GDE 2.5.12 that contains just this fix. Or you can wait for the next update to appear in your plugins list.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Problems installing GDEI’m not sure what is causing this error in your case. I’ve seen it pop up somewhat randomly in the past but never in such a way that a simple reactivation didn’t resolve the problem. It isn’t related to your table prefix, or at least I really doubt that it is, since I’m also using a custom prefix.
There may be some other issues related to Azure as I’ve never used GDE in that environment. You could create the tables yourself, perhaps (you can find the table schema in gde_db_tables in libs/lib-setup.php) and then attempt a reactivation, but I admit you should not need to do this. I’ve not run into nor heard of this issue before, so I’m puzzled by it as well.
The only other thing I can think of is to look for an option gde_db_version in your (xxx)_options table, and if it exists, delete it and try to reactivate. It shouldn’t exist at all if the table creation failed, though.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Problems installing GDEDave,
What happens if you disable GDE from your plugin list and enable it again? Do you still get the same error?

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Change text of 'Download (pdf..)'Hi Andrew,
Glad the plugin is useful to you!
You’ll find a plain old text field in GDE Settings for setting the text of the download link. Let me know if you need more help.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Google docs embedder and Adobe PDF toolbarIE11 is failing at the moment in just about every circumstance. Please refer to multiple other threads here on that topic. We are awaiting a fix from Google on that issue.
You will never see the adobe toolbar if GDE is loading the PDF. That is a function of the Adobe Viewer plugin in the browser, not of GDE, which does not use browser plugins. Why you’re seeing it sometimes is something of a mystery. I would only expect it if you embedded the PDF manually and not the GDE version of the viewer.
The print option in GDE 2.5.12 is not working correctly due to a Google code change. I have restored that functionality in the 2.6 beta, which I can send to you privately to test if you wish to contact me via the support tab in GDE Settings. Otherwise you should find that released relatively soon.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Color compressionUnfortunately this issue persists on the Google Docs end and there isn’t an immediate solution. You could try reducing the color depth of your documents – using a lower setting (or simpler images) the images may appear more grainy but less outright incorrect.
Due to Google’s negligence on this issue (and some others) you might expect this issue not to be fixed anytime soon. But then I did wake up one morning and find the long-standing issue of nonworking hyperlinks fixed, so one never knows. It would seem at the moment though this issue isn’t of great importance to them…

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] How to get color back in googledocembedded pdf's ?This is a very old thread. Thanks for randomly resurrecting it. π
You are correct that the plugin isn’t needed to embed the basic viewer. GDE adds convenience and other options like automatic download links and custom styling options. Feel free not to use it if you’re not interested in these features! Kind of think that goes without saying.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] Google doc Embedder and internet explorer 10-11It might, but I suspect not. That option prevents the document from being cached at Google, and is only useful on documents that are frequently overwritten (new versions at the same URL). It won’t assist with local browser cache issues.
Sorry for your difficulty with IE11. I am hoping the incompatibility will be resolved soon. The browser is officially supported by Google, but as you can see it’s still not working without forcing the rendering to an earlier version.

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE does not work with WP Better Security? It’s fine to use the WP Better Security plugin if you wish. I noticed that it doesn’t remove all of its changes if you do uninstall it, so maybe something you activated before is interfering. When I did a basic activation of it, GDE wasn’t affected.
I can try to see if there is anything I can do to make the plugins work together better. It would help if you provided this information:
1) With WP Better Security and GDE activated, when you’re trying to view a document, in the error message inside the viewer (“sorry, we are unable to find the document…”), what is the link it takes you to when you click the “click here” part of the message? Does that load or download your document, or not?
2) With WP Better Security deactivated and GDE activated, and the viewer correctly displaying the document, what is the download link? Is it the same as the link above?
GDE isn’t a security focused plugin, so for a direct answer to your question, I would suggest you reach out to the author of that plugin instead. While I was able to use the two plugins together, if you’re not then you might have to choose which one is more important to you.
Thanks,
Kevin

In reply to: [Google Doc Embedder] GDE does not work with WP Better Security? You did mention the error message, I just wanted to see it on your site so I could look to see if there was a difference in the download link inside the error message and the download link underneath the viewer. Every time I read this thread and revisit your site you must have the plugin turned off, because the viewer is functioning normally π
