In reply to: [CompressX — AVIF & WebP Converter, Media Replacement] Optimize all images?Hello @18tommyboy
CompessX does not compress the original JPG or PNG files. Instead, it focuses entirely on generating and optimizing the next-generation formats.
Here is the breakdown of what it does:
- It converts your original JPG and PNG files into WebP and/or AVIF formats and compresses those newly created WebP and AVIF versions.
- If the original image is already WebP, it will be converted to AVIF (if enabled) and compressed.
- If the original image is already AVIF, it is simply compressed further for size optimization.

In reply to: [CompressX — AVIF & WebP Converter, Media Replacement] Amazing PluginHello,
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a 5-star rating – it’s much appreciated!
To verify if the images are loaded in WebP or AVIF format, you can right-click on the image, select “Inspect,” then navigate to the “Network” tab in the browser’s developer tools. There, you’ll see the image format type (WebP or AVIF).
Kind regards.
Hello @icecreamjelly
Based on how CompressX handles files, here are the answers to your questions:
1. Yes, you will have 3 files on your disk. In fact, the primary benefit of using next-gen image formats is faster website loading speed.
2. To configure output formats, you can go to CompressX > Settings > Output Formats. You can select both formats, or disable one or both. When both are selected, the plugin delivers AVIF first, then falls back to WebP, and finally the original file if the browser doesn’t support the newer formats.
3. You can find the generated AVIF/WebP images stored in the
/wp-content/compressx-nextgen/uploadsdirectory.All the best,

Hello @icecreamjelly
You are welcome. Sorry that I forgot to mention that the ‘Thumbnail Deletion’ is a pro version feature. Since this forum is for free version support only, please feel free to contact us via this form and we’d be happy to provide more details about this option.
All the best,

Hello @icecreamjelly
Thanks for your feedback.
Please note that for safety and reliability reasons, we currently do not support and do not recommend automatic deletion of original JPG or PNG files after conversion.
Preserving the source file is important because:
- It allows you to easily restore a clean version of your image at any time.
- Many social media platforms (like Facebook) still do not fully support newer formats like WebP or AVIF. Retaining the original JPG/PNG ensures your pages share correctly across all platforms.
However, we do offer a feature that can help you save a significant amount of disk space without this risk. You can delete the original thumbnails that WordPress generates upon upload, which often make up a large portion of your image storage. This allows you to reclaim space while keeping your original images safe.
Please let us know if you need any further information.

Hello,
We’ve confirmed the feature is working on our side. Could you please check your caching setup?
First, if you have a caching plugin, please disable it. Next, toggle the ‘Enable it to convert the new uploaded images’ option off and then back on. Finally, upload a new image to verify conversion, and let us know if the bulk conversion process is working for you.
Kind regards.
Hello @djobidjoba
Could you please send us a debug zip file to support(at)compressx.io? You can find it from the CompressX’s System Info tab. That file will help us further identify the issue.
Thanks,
