In reply to: [CompressX — AVIF & WebP Converter, Media Replacement] AVIF disabled?Hello,
It seems that the issue is specific to your website, as the AVIF option is functioning correctly on our end. We recommend uninstalling the current version and reinstalling the latest one.
Additionally, please ensure that your web server supports the AVIF format. You can verify this on the System Information page.
Afterwards, let us know if the issue is resolved.
Kind regards.

In reply to: [CompressX — AVIF & WebP Converter, Media Replacement] Great and FreeHello @jovarask
The picture tag method is primarily a fallback for users on some shared hosting who can’t use the rewrite rule method. This method can sometimes have compatibility issues, especially with complex themes or other plugins. In that case, we recommend using the rewrite rule method, as it provides much better and more reliable compatibility.
Regarding your use of Cloudflare, we have a feature that can help with caching. In our plugin’s CDN settings, you can configure it to automatically purge the Cloudflare cache whenever new WebP or AVIF images are generated. This can be very effective at resolving CDN caching issues like the one you’re experiencing.
While CDN cache can cause temporary problems, in the long run, the cache will eventually update. On our own test sites, we use the rewrite rule method with Cloudflare, and it works without any issues.
Please let us know if you need any further information.
All the best,
Hello, we’ll discuss the issue you’re experiencing and keep you updated promptly.
Hello @rstrah
Unfortunately, from our side with WordPress, there’s not much more we can do to help. Even with a dev environment, the core problem lies with the CDN’s configuration, so the outcome would likely be the same.
The most effective next step is to contact your CDN provider directly. They should be able to look at the specific settings for your account and help you ensure that the
?originalparameter is being handled correctly in your environment. All the best,
Hello @rstrah
We’ve conducted multiple tests on the
?originalrule and can confirm that the rule itself has no issues. In our testing environments, including local Apache and those using Cloudflare, accessing an image with the
?originalparameter correctly bypasses the WebP/AVIF conversion and serves the original JPG file.Since the regular conversion from JPG to AVIF is working on your site, we know your
.htaccessfile is functioning correctly. This means the issue is most likely related to your hosting environment or a service that is handling requests before they reach your server. We noticed headers likeVary: Acceptin the response, which indicates that the image request is being affected by caching. We recommend checking your caching settings and how your system processes query parameters to ensure
?originalis not being ignored. All the best,
Hello,
- To verify if the images are loaded in WebP or AVIF format, you can right-click on the image, select “Inspect,” then navigate to the “Network” tab in the browser’s developer tools. There, you’ll see the image format type (WebP or AVIF). If you’re certain that the images are not loading in WebP or AVIF format, please provide the page links and specify the particular images in question. We are going to review them.
- For LiteSpeed Cache users, clear the cache after CompressX finishes converting images. If your site is hosted on a LiteSpeed web server, restart the server after activating CompressX for the rewrite rule in .htaccess files to take effect.
- If the issue continues, kindly provide the page URL where the images remain in their original format for further investigation.
Kind regards,
Hello @jovarask
Yes, the 220×220 image is from the uploads directory, which is the expected behavior when you use the rewrite rules method.
Because the picture tag method changes image urls to jpg.avif, while rewrite rule does not, the URL issue you’re seeing is likely because you have used both rewrite rule and picture tag methods.
We believe the rewrite rule method (the first option) works properly on your server, so we recommend that you switch to only using that option for consistent results.
With both methods, the way to verify whether AVIF or WebP is being served is to check the image type in your browser’s developer console.
All the best,
Hello, we are looking into this and will get back to you promptly with an update.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us a 5-star rating. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hello @jovarask
We’ve found that your images are already being served in the AVIF format when the gold variant is selected, as you can see in this screenshot.
Please note that the image URL does not need to have a
.avifsuffix to show that the converted format is taking effect. To verify whether AVIF or WebP is being served, you can check the image type in your browser’s developer console. For more details, please refer to this CompressX doc.All the best,
@jovarask Thanks. We are also investigating this issue further and will keep you posted on any updates.
