Hi Matt,
Many thanks for the update and your efforts to make BB compatible with Shield.
Let’s wait for BB team to see what they can do about it. Keep us posted on this, please.
Regarding 3rd party login/register forms, we try to support as many as possible with ShieldPRO such as these;
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000087070But, since this is wp.org, we can’t discuss this topic on the forums. Please feel free to email us if you’re interested and have questions about this.
Thanks,
Jelena
Hi Matt,
Firstly, thanks so much for the detailed problem explanation. This is always helpful for us in order to understand the problem better and provide best solution for you.
Please note that custom login forms wont work unless they use WordPress’ built-in function.
So, in your case, you’re using a custom login form, the necessary calls that WordPress login forms normally make, are not being processed.
Unfortunately, custom login forms need dedicated, custom code to work with systems like Shield that hook into them.
If you intend to use custom login forms, then you will most likely not be able to use Shield’s login protection system (such as “I’m a human” bot protection checkbox).
For example, WooCommerce provides custom login forms, and we support this, but this is because they provide the mechanisms to do this… unfortunately this isn’t very common with custom-built forms.
We know this isn’t the answer you’ll be looking for, but is unfortunately the reality of using many different and independently developed products for WordPress.
If you decide to keep using the custom login form in question, please see here how to disable “I’m a human” bot protection checkbox in Shield:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/please-check-that-box-to-say-youre-human-no-box/Hope this was helpful for you in some way, Matt.

Hi,
There’s is no problem at all. You’re not bothering us at all. 🙂
This setting can be found under the Shield Security Dashboard => Settings => Login Guard

https://www.screencast.com/t/eIZZbPcHjaIf you have any trouble to log into your site as the result of Shield, you can use a forceoff method:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959This will keep Shield active, allowing you to get back into your site and disable Bot Protection option.
The problem could be related to this:

Hi Benny,
You’re getting 404 error when you have your login URL changed with Shield and you’re trying to access it but you’re not logged in. If you’re logged in, you’ll not get this 404 error.

This feature can be found under the Shield Security Dashboard => Login Guard => Hide WP Login Page. This is how this feature works:
Normally, when you try access your WordPress admin area you are automatically forwarded to the login page. To ensure your login page remains hidden, you will receive a 404 page not found error instead. It will appear as if your WordPress admin doesn’t exist.
When you try to access any page within the ‘wp-admin’ section of your site, you will receive a 404 Not Found error page. If you’re not logged in, these links will fail.
You may find further details on this here:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000044812If you don’t want to use this feature, you’ll need to remove your custom login URL:
https://www.screencast.com/t/ZttBMoyyIf you have any trouble with getting back into your site, you may use a forceoff method:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959Once you’re in, you can remove your custom login URL explained above.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having.
Have you tried to disable page caching (plugin, system…) or try to login with another browser to see how that works?
You can try a forceoff method to get back in. Please follow these steps:
1) Go to your FTP manager and create a “forceoff” file. This is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959
This will keep Shield active allowing you to get back into your site.2) Log into your site or reload
3) Go to the IP Lists section and remove your IP from the block list. This is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/30000726554) If you’re sure that it’s about “I’m a human” checkbox, you can disable it through Login Guard => Bot Protection.
5) Remove a “forceoff” file
In case you want to disable Shield entirely, just rename the plugin folder (wp-simple-firewall) to anything you want.
Hope this helps.
Jelena
Hi,
Thanks so much for your suggestion.
We’ll see what we can do about it.

Hi Oliver,
Good to hear that you like the Pro version of the plugin. 🙂
Regarding your questions,
1. This isn’t possible at the moment. But, this is something that was requested by the other Shield users as well. We plan to add this functionality for one of the feature releases.
2. You can set scanner(s) to delete the infected files automatically for you. The settings can be found under the Hack Guard module => File Scans and Malware => Automatic File Repair:
https://www.screencast.com/t/EXFi5frtzpXWhich files were deleted can be seen in your audit trail.
Hope this helps.
Let us know if you have any additional questions on this matter.
Thanks.
Jelena
Hi,
In this case, best is to use a forceoff method to get back in and unblock your IP.
Please follow these steps:
1) Go to your FTP manager and create a “forceoff” file. This is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959
This will keep Shield active allowing you to get back into your site.2) Log into your site or reload
3) Go to the IPs section and remove your IP from the block list. This is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000072655
You can also use this section to whitelist your IP.4) If you’re sure that it’s about reCaptcha, you can either disable it through General Settings or update keys.
It would be also good to check your audit trail. It’ll tell you what exactly have happened, what triggered the block so you can prevent it. This article may be helpful for you:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/30000999145) Remove a “forceoff” file
In case you want to reset Shield to default settings, this is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000040181Update: We’ve just responded to your support ticket #13658.

Hi Tom,
If you’re using caching, please disable/or clear all caching and test to see how that works.
If that doesn’t help, you probably have a plugin/theme that’s interfering. You can disable the all plugins 1 by 1 and test to see which one is causing this. And then do the same with your themes.
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks.
Jelena
Thanks for the update.
We don’t recommend you try to run 2+ different security plugins as there’s no way to predict how they will interact. We suggest choosing 1 or the other.
Regards,
Jelena
Hi,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having with this.
Please understand that this problem isn’t caused by Shield. You can confirm this by disabling Shield’s Captcha (General Settings => Captcha => remove Site and Secret keys) or disabling plugin completely.
Shield is compatible with LearnPress. If you want to use Shield’s Captcha with LearnPress, please note that this is a Pro feature. This is the list of the WP membership plugins we support with Shield Pro:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000087070The problem you described is likely caused by incompatibility between LearnPress and reCaptcha by BestWebSoft plugin:
https://www.screencast.com/t/WgbsUidRpThis doesn’t mean anything is broken, the problem is just the sharing of data between plugins and how each plugin handles things differently. You can reach out to them and report this with as much detail as you can.
It’s also worth of mentioning that, whenever you can’t access your site as the result of any plugin, you can disable it via FTP. These are the steps:
1) Log into your FTP space for that website
2) Browse to the plugins folder: …./wp-content/plugins
3) Find the folder for the plugin that you need to disable
4) Right click on the plugin folder and select Rename
5) Rename the plugin folder to anything you want. For example, “disabled-pluginname”.Hope this helps.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you’re having.
Shield’s 2FA doesn’t affect “Lock To Location” option in any way.
When you turn on this option and your IP address changes, you’ll be forcefully logged out.
We discussed this here:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/locked-out-ip-address-session/If you want to use this option, make sure that your IP isn’t changing.
If you want to turn it off, please follow these steps:
1) Use a forceoff method to get back in:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959
2) Go to the User Management module and disable “Lock To Location” option
3) Remove a “forceoff” fileHope this helps.
Jelena
Hi,
Whenever you get locked out as a result of Shield, you can use a “forceoff” method to get back in and this is how to do that:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959Once you’re in, you can remove your IP from the blacklist through IP Lists section, and then check your audit trail. It’ll tell you what’s causing the block so you can resolve it. Please see here:
