In reply to: Godaddy InstallationI’m with Godaddy as well and don’t have any problem but, as you say, I have the CGI package (even though I don’t run any). I know it can be a pain waiting on the phone for technical support but I’ve always found them very helpful when they get around to answering the call.

In reply to: mod_rewrite makes me want to cryI had the same type of problem and found some answers here:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_PermalinksSomething about the host not reporting that Apache was installed or words to that effect. (see the bottom section). Followed the steps and life is good again.

Tried that, deleted .htaccess. Went to admin and updated permalink structure. No errors reported. Went back to / no .htaccess. Where the heck is it writing it?

In reply to: “I call it ‘Image-Taking'” – Is this possible?Calm down PJ. I guess hotlinking is a hot button topic. Your explanation goes some way to changin the impression left by your original question.
I can see the use of this for links to the big boys who love the publicity and probably wouldn’t give a dam if you stole a little bit of their bandwidth. What I, and probably others saw, was something that sounded like “I want make my site look extra cool and I need some way of getting around people who don’t want me stealing their hard work”.
Having said that, I would still prefer to copy the image to my site.
Please don’t judge this forum purely by these responses. Like I said, you hit a nerve. Hope you’ll stick around.
Peace

In reply to: Next Link (page/2/) Not WorkingSame problem here.
I deleted my .htaccess file, deactivated the plugins, created a blank .htaccess with 666 permissions and finally went back in and updated my permalink structure. Nothing gets written into the file.
Right now I’m using an old file, site works but next page doesn’t. I’ll keep watching this thread

In reply to: “I call it ‘Image-Taking'” – Is this possible? When I first started my blog, I was a hotlinking whore. It bothered me and I decided to cut down. (Before anyone goes searching, I haven’t gone back and removed all the hotlinks from my archives).
I still get hotlinked by others but, so far, my bandwidth can handle it so I’m not making a big deal about it. My Creative Commons license asks that I receive credit but, again, no big deal if I don’t.
I don’t see the point of developing a plugin that gives legitimacy to the practice.

In reply to: Why did YOU choose WordPress?I started with Blosxom but you had to create a text file, FTP it to the site for it to show up. Stumbled upon WP and loved the fact that I could blog from anywhere.
It’s also forcing me to learn about PHP and CSS which isn’t a bad thing.
