  • My install was just hacked up and rather than geet deeper into fixing it, I did this for going back to a regular WP install… I dont know if theres anything lingering, but it looks good so far.

the only thing I did was to copy my old wp-config.php over the newer modified one and the .htaccess seems to have sorted itself out on its own. Do you have a copy of your old config? I’m normally too confident in these instructions and dont make backups like I should…but this time I did and it saved my bacon.

As for the link structure…. it was odd that mine did the same thing as yours for about an hour. Single posts werent valid links and they all had changed structure. From the dashboard, I opened Settings then Permalinks. Before I saved any changes, the single links had started working again but I didnt like the structure so I chose Custom and entered this for the structure:/%year%/%postname%-%post_id% since its easy on the performance.

If you want some more ideas on making your own permalinks, heres a good reference. http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

This worked for me as I was having simply too much trouble with activating the Networks feature then logging-in issues…. now I’m back to a regular installation and link structure is back to normal.

I will be content with just making a bunch of smaller installs into my own subdomains… this Network activation is more on the side of network-admin level with the amount of server manipulation needed for people on different systems.

    Warning! /home/content/x/x/x/xxxxxxxx/html/ is writable.

yea, thats mine. I looked at the root folder ( / )and permissions are literally “xxx” which filezilla is telling me

you can use an x at any position to keep the permissions the original files have

so do we still go ahead chmod the entire folder, and then chmod 644 to all the loose files in that folder? or which folder?

everyone I know had good results with this back in the day, seems that something has changed and its ‘tactics’ are no longer valid. A site with horrible, non-changing, bland real estate sales ads is getting high rankings on the typhoon while site with actual typhoon (and using this plugin) information are not even listed on google alerts, as if they’re blacklisted.

What happened, is this plugin causing a blacklisting?

BytesForAll verified it was simply checking for an update and I have also since found the location, it only does that on theme-management screens and uses as little bandwidth as a handful of a few pings. Although I did find a way to disable the “auto update” option , I was keen to place my own comment in the line.

Reason: I had made a lot of modifications to theme files that I couldnt find plugins for or Athupata options. Like changing bulleted appearance and small things like that, updating the theme erases all those changes.

It’s a simple iFrame line in functions.php around line 216 in my version (v3.3.2).

    216 <table width="100%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0"><tr><td valign
    ="middle" width="380"><h2 style="margin:0 30px 0 0; padding: 5px 0 5px
     0;"><?php echo $theme_name; ?> Theme Options</h2></td><td
valign="middle"><!-- *****commented out iframe to disable
     update*** <iframe src="http://wordpress.bytesforall.com
    /update.php?theme=<?php echo $theme_name; ?>&version=<?php echo
     $theme_version; ?>" width="98%" height="40" scrolling="no"
     frameborder="0"></iframe> *****end comment**** --></td>

    217 </tr></table>

No worries, copyright, credit, and licensing is still in there, hehe. I just took out the explanatory comments for areas I could easily identify… no biggie, just something I do with everything – field stripping it like an MRE pouch. While the GPL allows for modification under certain conditions, I think its reasonable for BFA to get the occasional ping – after all, If I had put that kind of massive effort into a project, I’d also like to know how many people were using it.

Resolved as far as I’m concerned.

    a) dashboard

rather than create a new topic, I’ll post here.

On the plugins page, someone seemed to think it would be a good idea to force people to click extra times to see installed/uninstalled/ and recently deactivated…. rather than the most useful version before.

I dont see the logic….. I had everything on a single page, now we cant have that anymore and must constantly switch between screens. What was wrong with ‘enabled’ at the top, recent deactivations in the middle, and deactivated at the bottom? Oh yea, I know…. nothing.

I really do appreciate the free software that is WP, its a lifesaver… but I think there were a lot of changes in this one just so people could brag about “I did this and that and create WP versions….” while their changes make it less efficient.

I agree with the suggestion to roll it back.

hmmmm… apparently this went to another forum other than the theme forum I had thought. I was looking at the atahualpa theme.

    In reply to: Tab redirect

I have the same question, and while I plan on using the plugin (BTW thanks samboll), I already have a redirected page somehow, its worrying me.

I once had yellowswordfish simple forums plugin and it added a Forums page. I assume I somehow changed its redirection location to my old phpBB forums (I assume because I dont really remember doing it). That plugin has long since been deleted, page remains. It opens a regular page with text notices for a few seconds, then redirects.

Theres no redirect code in the html and I dont see it referenced in any .htaccess files.

    1. I’m going to delete this page eventually.
    2. I’m now worried of some modified files or scrap code laying around that I’m not using anymore.

any ideas on how its still working and where I should look for the sneaky stuff? I’m assuming theres something I dont get because there’s no actual /forums/ folder at that location.

see? I knew it had to be something simple getting overlooked. Must be a sign I’m getting old. Thanks!
