These funny permalink were due to the fact that they were subpages of a page I labeled ‘werkzeug’.
Changing the hierarchy solved it, problem solved, case closed

    Thanks, Laliz!

I probably wasn’t clear enough in the first place:

while the blog’s posts have their ‘proper’ permalink, something like /werkstatt/my-post/ , the pages get this /werkstatt/werkzeug/my-page/ – Permalink which I’d want to go away. So it isn’t a ‘global’ setting, and it is not defined in the dashboard’s preferences/permalinks.

    where else could I look?

    thanks again

wow, that was a quick response!
    Thanks!

I didn’t think of the possibility to style a class made of a specific tag, since there are quite many of them… but, well, it seems like that’s a huge playground …

    Moshu, thanks a lot!
I have no idea what mistake I made, but following the instructions was a good rermedy…

(I actally did no more than re-granting the database to the User I assigned to WordPress in Terminal)

Be my hero for the rest of the day 😉

I too stumbled across the feature.

Although I quite like it, how/where can I change it’s settings (Especially the length of the displayed text)?
Sidenote: I published a poem/songtext in my blog for development-purposes, and it is there that I realized that the truncated text loses it’s formatting. I wonder if this eventually could be corrected?

    Thanks!

    Hello ColdForged and Brian

Thanks very much for your assistance and patience!

ColdForged, Pretty much every plugin I copy into the “plugins” Folder are displayed in the Plugins Admin interface. It is now populated with the default distribution, (plus BriansThreadedComments, Hurrah! )

Brian, it seems as if the file’s permissions were the culprit. I changed it to be RWRWRW and it now does show up. One problem gone, it seems.

I then madde a duplicate of the default theme (changed it’s name so it got recognizable) and pasted ‘comment.php’ into that folder.

Once active, the whole footer — after the “This entry was posted on …” part — was gone. Here too, it was a mere permissions-issue (it was RWRW–), as soon as I changed it to be RWRWR-, all is fine.

I now experience the warm feeling of what it is to be a happy camper…

Again, thanks very much for helping me out on this issue!

Ok, but I guess you understand?

I run WordPress locally for the moment. Which means, I downloaded the zip-file from brian’s site, unzipped and copied the 2 files to their appropriate locations (comments.php into /contents/themes/mytheme/ and Briansthreadedcomments.php into /contents/plugins/).

(I already tried to put comments.php into the wp/ parent-directory, but this of course didn’t do anything.)

    GOSH!
I obviously fell into the trap of Lazyness.

I haven’t even heard of DrDaves Plugin Manager. I was actually talking about nothing else than WP’s 2Plugin Page in the Administration Interface”, in which “BTC” (BriansThreadedComments) still does not appear …

    Sorry for the confusion.

    (@davitz)

Uhm, to actually activate it, and thus, to be able to use it…
I wouldn’t mind if it “would just be there” (if it would’nt appear in WPPM, but display threaded comments).

But as of now, it’s the contrary, the files are in their directories, but without any impact to the output…

If you mean the replacement of “comments.php”, the thank you but I know this from the install.txt:

    > 1) Before beginning, make backup copies of <top>/wp-content/themes/<yourtheme>/comments.php
    > 2) Copy briansthreadedcomments.php to <top>/wp-content/plugins/
    > 3) Copy comments.php to <top>/wp-content/theme/<yourtheme>/
    > 4) Activate brians threaded comments from the plugin page

All of these steps have been done many times and thoroughfully before I began complaining / asking for help.

Is therer anything else that needed to be done?

    Hey ColdForged

blockquoteYour best bet is to go directly to the source and install manually according to the instructions.
    /blockquote

Actually, I did everything according to the specs. Downloaded/Installed from source, replaced comments.php, but still, threadedcomments (which I understand is an updated version of nestedcomments) doesn’t appear in WPPM.

I just re-tried the whole procedure to no avail – the recent version isn’t there, the older version appears, but breaks the ‘post a comment’-form (blank page returned, comment not added) probably due to some incompabilities with WP 1.5.

What really amazes me is that many positive feedbacks indicate that no other users have this issue, even though I run a “clean” (unaltered) version of WP!

    … ??? … (baffled a bit…)

    Update:
Went back to step 1: Reinstalled the default wordpress stuff (removed everything I already changed) to see if this would help get me Briansthreadedcomments — nope…

    I’m quite clueless here, sniff…
    anyone?

    (@davitz)

Update: I got the plugins from the official repository, and iimage did appear in the menu. (But I had to enalbe the hacks-thing, which I’m not ready to yet, so I removed it from the plugins-folder and the plugin waas gone.
No luck with the threaded comments plugin though. Will ttry download with another browser, who knows…
Can somebody maybe recommend another plugin for threaded comments (to make them look more like a discussion)?

    Thanks a lot
    david
