In reply to: tons of spam referrer sites listed in my statsdown at the bottom of cpanel, where it says ‘IP Deny manager’.
click on that, and put the IP address of the site you don’t want linking to you in the blank provided. Click on ‘add’.
refresh your screen, and it should now list it as a IP adress that is blocked.
If you don’t know the IP address, the Network tools has domain to IP lookup.
hope that helps.
Oh, I have been able to block most, but some still link. maybe they have enough IP addresses my blocking one doesn’t help. No idea really.

In reply to: tons of spam referrer sites listed in my statsMy cpanel lets me password the /wp-admin/ directory/folder.
Which I have done. And its not the same password/login for my admin login.
So the only page hits there should come from me, if not, I have a problem.
I find they look for dlls, word doc files, nonexistant directories, just about anything I don’t have on my sites.
Another thing to check is who is linking to you.
I have had to block several sites.

In reply to: Post Save or Publish Times OutMaybe you could type the long posts offline in an ascii text editor.
Log into admin in wp.
And then copy and paste them into the edit window in wp.
I found several ascii text editors by going to http://download.com and searching for:
ascii text editor
I use the pfe and edit pad lite editors.

In reply to: 1.2.2 site navigation suggestions ?ah, wppaginate works, if there has been more than one post on a particular date. At first I thought I had broken something.
It works okay, but it looks now like the nicer archives is more the direction I want to go.
I know the search function is there, but I have noticed over the years that what I think will be found by title or subject, isn’t how visitors to my site will always/mostly phrase it.

In reply to: 1.2.2 site navigation suggestions ?The lesterchan one broke after upgrade. its for 1.2
I’ll check the rest.
Nicer archives makes for a very long page… but maybe just the pull down menu and display the items selected is configurable. This is closest to what I’m looking for.
I don’t think the other two will work for me.

In reply to: Site critique pleaseFirst page is a little long, slows down loading, even on a t-1.
As for standard template, I use them as well. Not a big deal. I’ve been working on making my own jpgs, but I’m not an artist.
Looks good.

In reply to: Webhost wantedI use http://www.crosswinds.net/ for my domain and sub-domains.
Has cpanel, is blog compliant. Has several hosting packages.
I have wordpress 1.2 there, installed via Fantastico in Cpanel.

In reply to: Layout Review?you’re welcome.
I found out most viewers can see the pics, your site pulls them up via your web pages, even if they are blocked from hot linking. But evidently some folks cannot view such pics even though they should be able to do so. I was never able to determine what caused this to happen, thier ISP or a cpanel bug.

In reply to: Image issues – very odd…Yes, I had hot linking blocked for png files, and some folks in Europe couldn’t see my crestar maps. It should have worked, as my site was calling the pngs. I removed pngs from being blocked, and they could see my site then.
Cpanel gives a fill in the blank rectangle. Any file types in there will be blocked from remote linking.

In reply to: Image issues – very odd…check your hot link blocking.
I had a similar problem on one of my sites a couple of months ago.

In reply to: Layout Review?Hmm. I see them in Firefox 1.0
You might check the settings for your site and see if you have ‘no hot linking’ turned on. My domain lets me configure that using cpanel. You may or may not have cpanel.

In reply to: Layout Review?no need to put the <,a href bit in it, that gets added automatically.
