  • Anyone planning to port them to Paint? Then we might see a few more people willing to edit it. Not everyone can afford expensive graphics suites.

The graphics templates for Kubrick work 100% in GIMP, a 100% free graphics program. I suppose free is too much to ask though.

I don’t see the problem. Does my site resemble kubrick? Hell no! If someone wants something original they’re not going to bother with it. If they’re looking for a template, it doens’t matter what’s available… they’re going to take it. Just so happens Kubrick is probably the nicest template out there.

    It’s actually a PHP5 combined with Apache 2 issue… not a PHP5 alone issue.

It means that it works. LOL
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. Something about following virtual directories.

Add this to the top of your generated .htaccess:
    Options +FollowSymLinks +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
I bet you’re using an ensim host… this problem took me weeks to sort through.

    All nice sites.
maadmob> While I agree with you to an extent, I think you’ve missed the fundemental usage of a blog, hence the foundations of the IA. An extra homepage is of no use. When you go to a blog what do you go there to do? Read the most recent entry. An extra homepage makes it harder for people to use the site. That’s what I’ve tried to help (and others as well) with the most recent entry being on the home page. Blogs are about content, and therefore content should be put forth first. We’re not making websites selling computers, we’re making websites for people to read entries.

using :before and :after and content: will do the trick. No IE though. Only Moz/Opera I believe. Oh… and it’s CSS2, just that the IE team felt that it was not prudent to include many CSS2 functionalities.

I think helping people should be out of generocity, not out of potential for reward.
IMO no one will go back once their issue is solved to check who helped them. This is a similar idea to Turtle Dollars at Web Design Forums and honestly, not that many people use them. Nor the Answered/Unanswered question.
As for paid support, I don’t honestly think there’s enough people out there that would be willing to help for that little money. It’s nice to be able to help on your free time but putting money in it means people expect prompt results. $2-$3 an issue is nothing compared to what most of the people that help make on their regular jobs.

Traffic shouldn’t be about ‘conning’ people to go to your site. You should offer quality content that makes people want to come to your site… but that’s just my 0.02.
In any case, link is dead.

Nice progress. I like it a lot better!
A few small gripes (Don’t take these as serious, I just point out every little thing that bothers me):
-That blue next to the green looks interesting. I’m not so sure I like that green.
-Footer text needs to be white, it’s completely unreadable atm.
Good work, I like the heading titles much better!

Would be a lovely bit if someone found out just what is segfaulting Apache. Perhaps if I (ever) get some time I’ll work on it. Would be a function by function thing… narrowing it down to what’s doing it.
Unfortunately I know exactly how time consuming and boring this is. And I also happen to know how little time developers have =/ ‘Tis a sucky thing, and I feel as though we shouldn’t blame Apache/PHP for this (just as we don’t blame IE for mis-interpreting our CSS) and just find a workaround.
If anyone’s willing to work on this, I’m willing to contribute with what little time I have available.

    Whoa whoa whoa.

If we could persuade you to adjust the design to fit the reality of CSS positioning

That design fits perfectly within the “reality” of CSS positioning. How does it not? It’s one of the simplest layouts possible. Just a bit of CSS knowledge/experience required. If I have time later on tonight, I’l throw it together.

Root>> Please, do not start arguments. If you will re-read my post, you misquoted me – taking out the most important part of that sentence.

I’m kind of new to the community, although I’ve found a distinct lack of original design with WordPress.

Which was the entire point of this post. I want to find more original WP powered sites. Root, instead of attacking me, would you mind listing a few of the more original designs powered by WP out there?
podz> To each his own of course. I am a design-fueled individual. I read blogs that are pretty – why? Well, because I generally read blogs on design. If someone claimed to be a design expert w/ a WP default install, I’m not going to give it very much thought.
Anonymous> Thanks for those links, although I am a regular of the Vault (and have been for quite a while now) It’s the only reason I would have found out about WP. But still, I think I’ve only noticed maybe two or three WP powered sites there, compared to the 200+ of MT.
