  • That’s interesting. And only a puzzle solver like me would write something like this. It actually sounds terrible.

Do you be any chance have the Classic Editor plugin installed? A recent update changed added another setting to it. You can double-check under Dashboard > Settings >Writing.

Do you have any other plugins installed that add Custom Blocks to your site? If might be caused by one of those, not intentionally, of course. If you briefly deactive a third party blocks plugin and see if it persists.

Of course, it could also be a result of a different plugin incompatibility. Hard to tell. There is the WordPress Health Check plugin, that allows you as an admin in troubleshooting mode to deactivite plugins and themes, without taking your site down for visitor. I have found it to be very very helpful when something ‘unexplainable’ happens on a WordPress site.

It would be really helpful for other forums visitors if you could report back with your steps to hunt this one down:-)

Hi there! Thanks for taking to time to elaborate on your woes. And woes they are. That sounds really terrible. Some of it sounds like some plugin compatibility problems. What are the plugins you are using to get your movie reviews?

The MS Word parsing is a known issue, and the team is working on it. A fix should be available soon.

Glad that the Classic Editor plugin helps you over these teething problems of the new editor. I hope you check back into it at a later iteration:-)

    Hi there,
yes, the new editor needs a little getting used to, and has it’s own learning curve. Now might not the right time for you to spend time on it. If there is one specific feature that is totally mysterious to you, maybe we can point you in the right direction.
If you are able to install plugins, the WordPress Contributors provide the “Classic Editor” plugin directly from your “Add New Plugin” screen. That should get you back to the old editor.

Oh no. Seems you are having quite a rerrible start with Gutenberg.

There is the ‘Classic Editor’ plugin available for the traditional experience. You probably discovered is already.

Elementor actually embraces Gutenberg and its creators built a very nice integration with its templates.

It’ll take time to getting used to, I am afraid.

Hi there. Seems you had an terrible start with Gutenberg. And the overlapping block toolbars can be quite irritating. Try this: go to the three-dot menu on the top right and select Top Toolbar. That anchors the block toolbars bar to the top of the screen and out of the way. See if that works better for you.

You can also use the ‘classic block’ for a more traditional experience.

Never mind. just saw the “Stack on mobile” setting.

You are welcome. I am glad to read that the Classic Editor works for you on your site.

Sorry, but I only look at publically available sites. Your theme developer is probably the best person to provide the Gutenberg / Core developers with the necessary information to file a github issue/bug report.

Great, that you were able to narrow it down some more!

Are you using any 3rd party blocks on this particular page?
Or a blocks that uses outside services?

    Hi there.
That’s awful… With the new version of Gutenberg 4.5 did this resolve?
Are you able to see what error message is in the Browser Console?
In Chrome: 3-dot menu top right > Tools > Developer > Browser Console.
You can leave it open while working on your post and the moment the “Updating failed” message appears there should also happen an error message in the browser console.

Are you using any other page builder plugins? Do you have other plugins which provide you with Custom Blocks installed?
There was a new Gutenberg version (4.5) released on Nov 20th. Do you still see the error message?
It might help if you provide a bit more information regarding your site.
Also, WordPress Contributors maintain a Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin that will allow you with tracking this down.
For instance, it will allow you as the administrator to switch off plugins one at a time, without affecting your live site. This way you can make sure there isn’t a conflict with another plugins causing this error message.

Let me know how this goes:-)

    Hi there,
Sorry you didn’t get any help yet. Unfortunately, the link results in a “Forbidden” message. Can you update the link so I can have a look?
It sounds more like a Theme question than Gutenberg plugin question, though.
Let me know how I can help

Oh, that’s terrible. I assume that you already installed the respective plugins to handle the short codes. Sorry, but I have a ton of questions for you.

What were the other blocks? Were they Gutenberg default blocks or custom blocks from a different plugin?
Is it possible that those blocks were created with a different version of Gutenberg than on the new site?
What happened when you clicked on Convert To HTML? Did some of the display alright after that?

Did you try to open the particular post via the Classic Editor plugin?

Hi there – I saw your post here, I just wanted to let you know, that I am with you that those prompts are annoying and thank you for trying to make it easier on your users.
As I get the “Leave site?…” prompt even after I physically saved the draft, I just figured the browser and Gutenberg UI are not always communicating well. Sorry, I don’t have a solution for you. Did you figure it out in the meantime?

Interesting. You put all that in your Github issue, right?
