No worries, I just needed to increase my PHP upload size. I had not realised the plugin was that large as it was originally installed from the repository. WordPress does not offer the ability to install a plugin from a URL like Joomla does. Well, maybe with a plugin, but I would not do that.
The link to the Beta plugin takes me to a .zip file that is ~20MB compressed and ~33MB uncompressed. That does not seem like a plugin update to me.
Done.
Thank you for the reply. I look forward to trying out the fixed version of your plugin. It is a timesaver when you need this type of functionality. Cheers!
Hi – I wanted to add a small update. I have not yet been able to confirm this issue being related to your plugin; however, I believe it is.
I had entered several categories in hierarchical order: state, county, city. Those were all in place, and assigned to posts.
As I entered more posts and I attempted to assign those posts to, say a city, I found the state-county relationship was still there, but the city relationship had been lost. The city was now a standalone category unrelated to any state or county.
When I have time, i will try to confirm this behaviour, although I really do not want to have to go back and redo any more relationships.
They were only new categories added, and no changes to existing category relationships. Only posts were added since I deleted your plugin, and I do not believe there have even been any plugin updates recently.
Thank you for the reply. I am only seeking support for the free plugin. I never install the pro version until the free version works.
I used the SMTP Test Tool and received the result I expected: the test failed.
Since I had tested everything else I could think of, I decided to test the one other thing I knew I could control: I changed the password for the email account. The test email sent successfully.
I use a password manager, so I regularly use long, random passwords, as I do not have to memorize any of them. I am guessing that there must have been some pattern of characters that either WordPress or your plugin did not like.
Since I am no longer using the old password, I will open a support ticket and paste the old password in it so it can be determined what the root cause of the issue was. The username/password combination I had worked everywhere but failed using the SMTP Post plugin on an up-to-date WordPress site.

In reply to: [WP Super Cache] Plugin possibly exploitedAfter deleting the files from the server, which was a compressed file and an HTML file for every single post on the site, and uninstalling your cache plugin, the issue has not returned to the site. I am not willing to risk installing the plugin again on a live site for obvious reasons; however, if I have time, I will spin up a VPS and install it on a test site to see if the same thing happens there. If so, I will raise a new ticket.
As far as this issue goes, since the removing the files and plugin resolved the matter, I think we can close this thread. It should be noted that I seriously doubt that my antivirus software would have allowed me to download any of the files to my devices, even if I had thought to do that at first.

In reply to: [Yoast Duplicate Post] Is this plugin compatible with PHP 8.4?@noellesteegs Hi – I can confirm this plugin has been running fine for quite some time in PHP 8.5.x. I just now checked a site where the plugin is installed, and the site is running PHP 8.5.7.

In reply to: [WP Super Cache] Plugin possibly exploitedOkay, so I installed Wordfence Security and JetPack Protect (I could not find Scan when searching the plugins via the admin dashboard). Wordfence Security reported no issues found, with the exception of one theme and one plugin needing to be updated. Both are set to automatically update in a couple of hours, and both are at their current versions, so I ignored that issue. JetPack Protect reported: “Don’t worry about a thing The last Protect scan ran 1 hour ago and everything looked great.”
Regarding the files that were on the site in the cache folder, there appeared to be one folder for each post. I randomly checked several folders and they all had the same two file types. One was a file with the name “index-https.html” and the other was a .zip file. The ZIP file might have had the same name, I do not recall. I wanted to get them off of the server immediately, so I deleted the cache folder and ultimately the plugin itself.

In reply to: [WP Super Cache] Plugin possibly exploitedThank you for the reply. I have a malware scanner that flagged these files, and I ran two more malware scans after I removed your plugin and deleted the cache folder.
Since your response seemed to indicate that malware still exists, which malware scanner would you suggest I run to check for possible exploits? I already signed up for Malcare, which seemed to be the best based on some brief research, and ran a scan using that plugin. Malcare indicated the site was safe and nothing nefarious was found: “No active compromise detected in the latest scan. Keep your site protected with continuous monitoring.”
Great, thank you.
Can we get an answer about the 24-hour trigger question from your dev team? Do admins have any control over setting the time, is it triggered based on server time (and at what time?), or anything else useful to admins. Thank you.
I waited a bit longer to ensure the process had enough time to clear the erroneous warning, and it appears the warning was successfully removed. It would be nice to know the answer to my previous question about the 24-hour trigger so admins would have some idea of how that process works. Other than that, it appears this issue is resolved. Thank you.
Thank you for the update. Do you know at what time the ‘updated once every 24 hours’ process is triggered? Is it based on some setting in your plugin, server time, or something else?
