    We assure you the fact that we are periodically updating our plugin, does not mean we do not provide full support and problem resolution assistance for all our plugin versions. Moreover, an update does not necessarily mean a complete change in the archive restore logic, so the issue you described happens quite rare but still is solvable.     In our product description you can clearly read and get to know all the features of all our plugin versions.
    Please before installing and trying to use any free product make sure you get acquainted with its possibilities and it totally meets your expectations in order not to feel confused or disappointed by the product. We have a great number or customers who use the free version of our plugin and are satisfied with it, thus knowing what this version can give them. And the reason we have our own proprietary format doesn’t aim to force you pay us.

    As for why we have our own format solution, we will bring you some very important reasons:

    1) As you already know, many of WordPress based websites are hosted in shared hostings that have small execution time limit for PHP scripts. We have figured out a way to surpass that issue thanks to our reloading mechanism, and that could not be possible if we didn’t have our own format.

    2) Migration procedure is fully automated. Checkout all the other plugins and you’ll notice, that all of them ask you to enter find/replace pairs for migration. This solution surpasses all this steps and makes your life easier when you want to migrate your website without entering anything.

    3) The zip format has limitations that we don’t have. For ex. zip file can not be larger than 4GB or have more than 65555 files.

    And those aren’t the all reasons, but we think they are good enough to allow us create and use our own custom archive format. Also, I’d like to inform you that our SGBP Extractor is completely free to download and easy to use: https://backup-guard.com/downloads/. (although we believe that manual extraction is not necessary at all).

    As for migration we clearly pointed out in our product description that the mentioned option is available in pro versions only. Regarding your feedback we can say that your accusations are completely unfounded. We have highly qualified developers and professional support, we’re working hard not to leave any issue unresolved and always strive for professional development and customer satisfaction. So if you had or will have any real problems with our plugin just know that we will spare no effort in helping you to resolve your issue.

    The issue related to migration was resolved in BackupGuard Pro v1.1.36. So, if you’re not running the latest version, try to update and check it once again.

    Hello,

    If you’re running Free version of BackupGuard, then you should setup a new WordPress with the same table prefix you had before. As you see the plugin suggests what should be the prefix. So, go ahead an setup a clean/new WordPress with the mentioned prefix and restore your backup.

    If you don’t want to change anything, all BackupGuard Pro versions support migration feature. BackupGuard Pro will automatically adjust your backup to the new environment.

    You don’t need to use the mentioned php script anymore! We’ve launched a native software for unpacking SGBP archives. You can simply install the software on your computer now and use it as you’re using your other native applications.

    To be honest, I really didn’t understand why 3 stars if you’re so happy with this product? As stated in the message, the download issue could be consequence of your server configurations which restrict symlink creation. You can use BackupGuard GUI download functionality as you ask your hosting provider to enable that feature for you. This is not a limitation coming from BackupGuard, but only and only from your hosting provider.

    I’d like to outline, why symlinks are so important in this case. We don’t open direct access to backup archives, but create a temporary symlinks. This has been done in point of security reasons. Nobody won’t be able to download your archives externally without your permission.
