In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Restore backupHello,
As you have already tried our extractor and it didn’t work, could you please contact our support team at support@backup-guard.com and we will do our best to try to restore your website as soon as possible?
Thank you,
Lisa,
BackupGuard TeamHello,
Thank you very much for the feedback.
Currently, we backup every table that we find inside the database, but of course, only if the database user has access to them.
So if you want to limit access to each instance, you have to do it from the DB level, it won’t be possible to do that from the plugin.
The purpose of the plugin is to backup whatever it finds in the database (if the database option is selected of course), but we are improving it everyday, and soon we will have selective backup and restoration for the database too.
If you need more information, help or more professional advice for your case, please contact us at support@backup-guard.com and we may have some good solutions for you 🙂
Regards,
Lisa

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Backup will not restore/downlaodHello,
This exception could happen when you attempt to restore an old archive which is not supported by the installed version of BackupGuard plugin. If you really need to restore that specific backup, you should install proper version of BackupGuard plugin to be able to restore that archive. Or you can manually restore it by unpacking the sgbp archive you have. More detailed information regarding manual restoration you can find here: https://backup-guard.com/products/backup-wordpress/faq/manual-restore-website.
If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate on contacting us again.
P.S. Regarding downloading the backup archive on your local PC, please checkout the following topic first: https://backup-guard.com/products/backup-wordpress/faq/backup-symlink-creation.

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Doesn’t DeliverHello,
Sometimes, depending on server/hosting configurations, symlink creation fails. That’s why the download link doesn’t supply the backup archives. Of course this doesn’t mean you can’t download your archives. All your backups are kept in “/wp-content/uploads/backup-guard/” directory. And you can download them using any FTP client, e.g. Cyberduck or FileZilla. If you want to fix this, you should contact to your hosting provider and ask them to change that configuration for you. So, we’ll be able to create symlinks pointing to your backups and you’ll be able to download your backups right from BackupGuard dashboard.
If you need more clarifications, please feel free to open a ticket here: https://backup-guard.com/products/backup-wordpress/support.
P.S. In point of view security, that will increase vulnerability if we supply direct urls pointing to the actual backup archives. Each time when you press download button, we dynamically create a symlink with arbitrary name pointing to that backup archive.
B.T.W. We’d really appreciate if you could find a second to reconsider your review regarding our plugin.
Generally BackupGuard generates a log file for each backup process and logs descriptive information for each step. We believe you’ll find respective log messages about the all tables were dumped on your side. Most probably you just didn’t checked that out yet.
If you keep other website tables in the same database, then you’re right. Those tables will be backed up along with WordPress related tables. This is the way plugin designed and functions now. I know, the table prefix allows to identify the tables related to the current WordPress installation. But as a WordPress plugin which is comfortable with Multisite WordPress installations too, we assume everything placed in the database linked to the WordPress is necessary and should be included in the backup. And generally the databases linked to the WordPress installations don’t include tables used by 3rd party websites. Maybe I can agree with you, that we should let customers choose which tables they want to backup and provide more detailed information about that. But this is against the BackupGuard philosophy, to keep the easiness of the usage of the plugin.
We’re really sorry that the plugin didn’t meet your needs as you’ve expected!
Hello,
Backup Guard backups up the entire database, you’re right. And we don’t see any problem there. Even for Multisite WordPress installations, only the network owner is eligible to perform backup/restoration procedures. And this aims to backup the hole network, instead of only single website from the network.

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Backup to Dropbox failedHello,
First of all, we’ve experienced many many situations when ‘MAX EXECUTION TIMEOUT’ limitation shows a fake number and it doesn’t function as supposed to. You can check it out by simple script which takes a while to make sure if it’s the case. If so, ask your hosting provider to clarify/explain why this happening on your server.
Have you checked out the following option located in the “Backup Guard” settings section: ‘Do backup with reloads‘? Try to enable this option, then create a new backup to see how this affects on the behavior.

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] SGExceptionMethodNotAllowedHello,
This means Backup Guard doesn’t have sufficient permissions to create a destination folder where we keep all your backups, log files, meta infos and so on…
So, try to connect with any FTP client (e.g. Cyberduck, FileZilla …), create ‘/wp-content/uploads/backup-guard/‘ and set proper permissions to allow Backup Guard have a full access on that directory.
Thanks,
Support Team, Backup GuardHello,
We use our own format because of several reasons:
1) The zip format has limitations that we don’t have. For example, a zip file cannot be larger than 4GB or have more than 65535 files.
2) We have removed a lot of unused headers, making that way our file smaller and faster to generate or extract.
3) As you already know, many of WordPress based websites are hosted in shared hostings that have small execution time limit for PHP scripts. We have figured out a way to surpass that issue thanks to our reloading mechanism, and that could not be possible if we didn’t have our own format. So we think these reasons are good enough to allow us create and use our own custom archive format. Also, we are also offering you an extraction software, so there is no issue for extracting your files (although we believe that manual extraction is not necessary at all).
We are not trying to control anybody in any way, but we would like to talk with you and understand your point of view, because it’s very important for us.
Thank you!

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Version 1.1.12 doesn't seem to workCould you please checkout the following option in the Backup Guard settings: “Backup with reloads”? Try to create new backups playing with that option. Might be you’ve installed a security plugin which prevents nopriv WordPress ajax calls.
Thanks,

In reply to: [JetBackup - Backup, Restore & Migrate] Deleting a failed backupYes! You won’t be able to restore that backup, so you can delete it. There’s no any restriction regarding that.
