Just out of curiosity, why allow users to switch back and forth between backend and front-end and not use a front-end user registration and edit profile plugin?
This should be much easier to setup then a membership one.

To answer some of your questions:
– we’re working on adding an add-on bundle in a month or so, once we release a few more payment gateways (like PayPal Pro, Stripe etc.).
– the recover password shortcode will support a “redirect_url” parameter in the next release, it’s already in development.
– hide/disable admin bar from users. This is also a good suggestion, I’ve added it to our development list, it should be ready in December.Really appreciate your feedback,.

The “redirect_url” shortcode parameter is only available in the [pms-login] shortcode for now, in order to redirect users after they log in. (as per our documentation)
What you’re describing makes sense though, so we’ll add it to the [pms-recover-password] as well in the next update.

In reply to: Ultimate membership with payment possibilities?I think the best option would be to look for a compatible membership plugin with the user registration one.
Two that I helped develop and which are fully compatible are Profile Builder (for front-end user registration) and Paid Member Subscriptions( creating subscription plans, accepting payments and restricting content).
This way you can allow users to sign up for a membership plan at registration.One subscription will be free giving them access to the page for logged in users, the other subscription plan will be paid giving them access to the pages with more information and videos.

Paid Member Subscriptions can help you with the scenario above.
The content restriction can be done per each page/post or cpt or globally using Global Content Restrict add-on based on post type, taxonomy and terms. More info here.
Videos and Dowloads can be taxonomies of Courses CPT. For creating custom post types and taxonomies without coding look into using the WCK plugin.

From what you’re describing, I think it’s better to have accounts for your members, since they will need to annually renew their membership. So, it’s much easier to send them notifications that their membership will expire and ask them to log in and pay for one more year.
I suggest looking into Paid Member Subscriptions which will allow you to set up different membership levels and allow users to sign up for them and pay via PayPal. You won’t be needing the restrict content part, so you can simply use it to create the plans and ask people to pay for becoming a member.
Once a member will register, the admin can be notified an email with the member details. Here’s a video on how to set up membership levels with PMS.

A tiered membership sounds like the best option for this scenario.Paid Member Subscriptions will allow you to create tiered subscriptions plans (free or paid) and restrict content based on logged-in status or selected subscription.
You could for example, have content visible for everyone, content visible just for members (for free if they register), and content visible only for paying members.I strongly suggest encouraging people to create an account, even if it’s a free one, since building an email list can help you better market your publication or announce readers about new content in the future.
The plugin also allows you to setup paid membership levels, for which users can apply and pay via PayPal. The paid members can maybe also get access to a page from where to download the .pdf version of the publication.
